This is a particularly great place for dogs to run around and explore:
- The stretch of beach along the Grömitz cliffs down to the stream.
- On the dike between Grömitz and Lenste—though, of course, you can keep walking much further, all the way to Kellenhusen or Dahme.
- On the many dirt roads around Grömitz, for example in the Trift or around Lenste.
- In the forests that surround our small villages. Nienhagen and Cismar have a lot to offer.
- In the meadows behind the promenade. There’s plenty of space near Schlemmerland, by the old outdoor pool, or along the waterfront road.
Enjoying life as a dog without a care in the world
Of course, you can’t go completely leash-free in Grömitz either. If only to make sure their owners don’t get lost. Outside the designated dog beaches in Grömitz, dogs must be kept on a leash—they actually feel much more at ease that way than if they had to constantly watch out for a bike, a car, or the cheeky cat from next door sneaking up on them.
For all those who love the great outdoors, the Grömitz area offers a variety of wonderful hiking and walking trails for a vacation with your dog. Here, dogs and people meet other dogs and people; some chat while others sniff around. If you’re looking for an exciting outing for the whole group, we recommend the dog park in the Kellenhusener Forest. Here, you’ll always meet someone to chat and play with.

Of course, when you’re out and about in Grömitz with your dog, there are certain “businesses” to take care of. That’s why the promenades are stocked with those famous little black bags—so nothing is left lying around. During the season from April 1 to October 31, the beaches—with the exception of the dog beaches in Grömitz, of course—are off-limits to our four-legged friends with cold snouts; before and after that, they’re naturally welcome on the beach. The winter months are therefore ideal for long walks for both two-legged and four-legged friends.
From November through March, Grömitz is the perfect paradise for dogs. Almost all restaurants and snack bars welcome four-legged friends, and most have a bowl of fresh water ready for them.
