You know your coast. You know where the most beautiful walking path is, where the wind blows especially strong, and where you can just take a quick look out at the sea. But what is the other coast like?
As part of the “Coastal Exchange,” Büsum and Grömitz are inviting their residents to find out exactly that. Those who call Büsum home get to discover Grömitz. Those who live or work in Grömitz head out to Büsum. Step away from the familiar for a few days and immerse yourself in a different coastal world. The North Sea meets the Baltic Sea—and both reveal their very own unique sides in winter.
Here's how to switch coasts.
It doesn’t always have to be a big trip. Sometimes a different view of the sea is enough. A “coast swap” is about leaving your everyday coastal routine behind for a moment and getting to know a place that feels both familiar and foreign at the same time. In Grömitz, the Baltic Sea awaits with a wide sandy beach, a pier, and a view across Lübeck Bay. In Büsum, you’ll experience the North Sea with its tides, the Wadden Sea, the harbor, and the fresh North Sea breeze.
Two coasts, two distinct characters—and the perfect opportunity to discover which side you may have been missing this winter.

Book your Coastal Exchange exclusively starting September 1, 2026, at select hotels at significantly discounted rates. Travel period: November 1 through December 20, 2026.
The listed booking fee of 20.00 euros does not apply to “Küstentausch” bookings and will not appear on the booking confirmation. Payment is made directly to the hotel at the special rates listed, which are 45 euros or 55 euros per person per night in a double room, including breakfast.

The "Coastal Exchange" is a joint initiative between Grömitz and Büsum. People from Büsum spend their vacations in Grömitz—and people from Grömitz travel to Büsum.
The booking fee does not apply to any bookings made as part of the "Coastal Exchange" promotion. It will no longer appear in the next step—that is, in the booking confirmation. Payment is then made directly to the booked hotel at the listed Coastal Exchange rates.
Residents—that is, people who live in Grömitz or Büsum or who work in those towns—are eligible to participate. The program is aimed at residents of Büsum and Grömitz who would like to explore the other coast of Schleswig-Holstein during the fall and winter.
When checking in at the hotel, all travelers must provide proof—in the form of an ID card or a certificate from an employer in Grömitz or Büsum—that they are eligible for this offer. Important: If this cannot be verified, the standard room rate must be paid.

The travel period for the coastal exchange is between November 1 and 20.12.2026, for a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 nights.
Some hotels actually still offer a discount for children. For technical reasons, this discount can only be booked through the room reservation services in Grömitz or Büsum.
Cancellations are free of charge up to 4 days before arrival. For cancellations made up to 3 days before arrival, 80% of the agreed-upon travel price will be charged. Requests to change reservations are generally accepted and processed only up to a maximum of 4 days before arrival. Important: Availability is limited, so duplicate bookings will be canceled.
