The Baltic Sea Guide is the official Baltic Sea app and provides numerous tips and practical information for planning vacations and leisure activities along Schleswig-Holstein’s 160-kilometer Baltic Sea coastline. Thanks to a growing number of partner towns, the Baltic Sea Guide’s coverage area—and thus the variety of tips—is constantly expanding. Soon it will also include inland areas, as the Baltic Sea Guide will feature not only many coastal towns but also Holstein Switzerland in the future.

What the Baltic Sea Guide Offers

The Baltic Sea Guide provides a centralized, comprehensive collection of countless, up-to-date tips and information that you would otherwise have to painstakingly gather from numerous brochures and Google searches. If you share your location, it automatically suggests tips from the surrounding area. What’s convenient is that it works not only in your own vacation spot or hometown, but currently in a total of 21 Baltic Sea destinations. This makes it easy to plan day trips or attend events in neighboring towns. The Baltic Sea Guide is free and requires no registration.

What tips and information the official Baltic Sea app provides

As a constant companion on your smartphone, the official Baltic Sea app provides up-to-date tips on events, recreational activities, must-see attractions, restaurants, biking and hiking trails, and shopping. It also provides users with many useful addresses. For example, it helps you find parking, locate public restrooms or ATMs, offers interactive maps for on-site navigation, and provides weather updates. For many coastal towns, it includes an additional information service that’s especially useful during the swimming season: the DLRG swimming advisories. Which DLRG stations are staffed? Is there a current swimming ban in a particular town? The Ostsee Guide answers these questions as well, helping you plan your beach visit more effectively. You can save all your personal highlights—the ones you don’t want to miss—to a wish list (“Dat Mutt-Büddel”) so you don’t lose track of your favorites amid the Ostsee Guide’s wide variety of tips.

An additional service for vacationers—the digital "ostseecard"

In most of the destinations featured in the app, travelers can obtain the digital “ostseecard” (tourist card) and save it in the Ostsee Guide. This eliminates the need to carry a paper copy of the “ostseecard” with you, as all the discounts offered by the tourist card can be redeemed easily at any time using your smartphone.
How much the Baltic Sea Guide costs and where to get it The Baltic Sea Guide is a service provided by the official tourism organizations of the participating destinations. As such, it is free of charge for users. It can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and is also available as a web version at www.ostsee-guide.de.

What Sets the Baltic Sea Guide Apart from Other Apps

The Baltic Sea Guide is a resource created by the region and for the region. Several tourism organizations from the Baltic Sea region have joined forces to create it, and with their local expertise, they ensure that the Baltic Sea Guide always provides a comprehensive overview of what there is to experience in each town. In addition, the Baltic Sea Guide benefits not only visitors and locals, but also all the regional businesses featured in the app. They gain an eye-catching platform to showcase their businesses, making it easier for potential customers to find them—all without any costs or loss of commission.
The following places and regions are already listed in the Baltic Sea Guide: Dahme, Eckernförde, Fehmarn (island), Grube, Grömitz, Großenbrode, Haffkrug, Heiligenhafen, Hemmelsdorf, Kellenhusen, Laboe, Lensahn, Neustadt in Holstein, Niendorf/Ostsee, Pelzerhaken, Pönitz Lake District, Rettin, Scharbeutz, Schönberg, Schwedeneck, Sierksdorf, Strande, Timmendorfer Strand, Travemünde. Starting August 1, 2025, Holsteinische Schweiz will also be included, featuring the towns of Malente, Plön, Eutin, Grebin, Dersau, Bösdorf, and Bosau.
