Art and Culture Days in Cismar 2026

The historic Cismar Monastery once again invites visitors to its Art and Culture Days this year—a highlight of the region’s cultural calendar. From June 20 to 21, the idyllic monastery grounds will be transformed into a vibrant hub for art, music, and tradition. Visitors can look forward to a diverse program featuring exhibitions, workshops, guided tours, and live music.

As part of the Arts and Culture Days, a festive exhibition opening will take place on Friday, June 19, in the Klostersaal. Guitarist Christian von Seebeck will provide musical accompaniment. The exhibition will feature works by regional and national artists, including Doris Runge (poetry), Jan Kollwitz (Japanese ceramics), Kirsten Metzner-Erlewein (jewelry and calligraphy), Sabine Höft-Dammer (Kattenberg Creative Workshop), Heike Lellmann (photography), Katrin Faasel (sculptures and three-dimensional art), Gisela Ebert (painting), and Kathrin Schulte (origami). Guest artists Regina Kasper (painting) and Lina Danklefsen (porcelain and painting) enrich the exhibition.

On Saturday, June 20, the Art and Culture Days will be all about Midsummer. The exhibition in the Klostersaal will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A diverse cultural program will accompany the day: At 1:00 p.m., Gisela Ebert invites visitors to a studio tour in Rüting. From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., there will be a workshop on “Gelli Print.” A guided tour of the monastery begins at 5:00 p.m., while at the same time visitors can make flower wreaths. The children’s dance group from the Neustadt Folk Dance Circle will kick off the evening program at 5:00 p.m. Starting at 6:00 p.m., the Irish folk band “Hot Asphalt” and folk dance performances will provide musical entertainment. Highlights of the evening include the Midsummer bonfire with a bonfire speech at 9:00 p.m. and a public screening of the World Cup soccer match on the big screen starting at 10:00 p.m.

On Sunday, June 21, the weekend will come to a close with an equally varied program. The exhibition is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Ilja Ruf Trio invites you to a jazz brunch in the Klosterhof. The award-winning pianist and singer blends classic jazz traditions with modern influences and is already familiar to the Cismar audience from previous performances. At 1:30 p.m., a guided tour of the kiln begins with Jan Kollwitz, while live music by the duo “Wildkraut” accompanies the afternoon. For families, there will be an activity featuring giant soap bubbles starting at 2:00 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Father Ralf will lead a tour of the monastery titled “In the Footsteps of the Monks,” followed by a meditative closing ceremony in the monastery church at 4:30 p.m.
