Midsummer Festival at Cismar Abbey

Tradition, Music, and a Big Bonfire on June 20

The Cismar Volunteer Fire Department invites you to a festive Midsummer celebration on Saturday, June 20, starting at 5:00 p.m. on the grounds of Cismar Abbey. Visitors can look forward to a varied program for the whole family, featuring traditional customs, live music, culinary delights, and the big Midsummer bonfire.

To kick things off, visitors can make flower wreaths starting at 5:00 p.m.—a popular Midsummer tradition. At the same time, the children’s dance group from the Neustadt Folk Dance Circle will open the evening program with their performances, setting a festive tone against the historic backdrop of Cismar Abbey.

Starting at 6:00 p.m., the musicians from the Irish folk band “Hot Asphalt” will take the stage and, together with additional folk dance performances, provide top-notch entertainment and a festive summer atmosphere on the monastery grounds. The Cismar Volunteer Fire Department will be serving grilled specialties and refreshing drinks.

A special highlight of the evening is the traditional Midsummer bonfire at Cismar Abbey. After the bonfire speech, the fire is lit around 9:00 p.m., creating the special atmosphere that makes the Midsummer Festival a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike year after year.

Soccer fans will also get their money's worth: Starting at 10:00 p.m., the World Cup match between Germany and the Ivory Coast will be broadcast publicly on a big screen.

The Cismar Volunteer Fire Department looks forward to welcoming many visitors and to a convivial midsummer evening in the special atmosphere of Cismar Abbey.
