Grömitz Comprehensive School’s School Development Day: German-Danish Professional Exchange as Part of “Best of Baltic”

The faculty of the Grömitz Comprehensive School used the school development day on February 2, 2026, for a professional exchange with Rødby Skole (Denmark) and for an informational trip to the Fehmarn Belt Crossing.

While the students had the day off from school, the teaching staff participated in a full-day professional development and exchange program. As part of an excursion, the teachers traveled via Puttgarden and took a ferry to the Danish island of Lolland. At Rødby Skole, a structured exchange on school development processes took place. Topics of focus included changing learning habits, sustainable school development projects, and modern teaching methods designed to ensure long-term learning success.

“The professional exchange with our colleagues at Rødby Skole was of great importance to our school’s development. A planned school partnership is intended to promote the continuous transfer of knowledge and mutual support in the long term,” explains Jan-Eric Hertwig, principal of Grömitz Comprehensive School.

Following the school visit, the excursion continued to the Fehmarn Belt Crossing on the Danish side—one of the most fascinating construction projects in Europe today. On the observation deck and at the information center, the faculty was able to learn about the project’s progress up close before continuing on to the German side of the construction site. The Fehmarn Belt Info Tour was accompanied by a live commentary from Martin Krüger of Fehmarn-Tours, who also offers guided tours departing from Grömitz during the season.

The School Development Day took place as part of the German-Danish project “Best of Baltic,” in which the Grömitz Tourism Service—the OstseeFerienLand—is also participating. “Best of Baltic” is a sustainability project organized by young people that recognizes even the small steps taken by each individual—whether through social engagement, climate and environmental protection, or innovative ideas for a positive future.
