We are Best of Baltic

We are BoB

"It's finally happening!" says Franc Grimm from the INB at the University of Lübeck. Best of Baltic—or "BoB," as it's better known—has kicked off. A few years ago, students came up with the idea as part of a German-Danish project, and now it’s becoming a reality as part of a three-year EU Interreg project.

Many Small Steps—Working Together for the Future

The goal is to launch a cross-border sustainability movement in the region between Lübeck and Roskilde. Businesses and citizens, schools, and visitors want to inspire one another to take small steps toward a better future. These steps span all areas—from waste reduction to energy and mobility to social engagement. Jacqueline Schumacher from LTO OstseeFerienLand: “Almost all of us are already doing quite a bit—but what’s been missing is talking about it with pride, thereby motivating ourselves and others to take even more steps.”

Steps are entered via the BoB portal (www.best-of-baltic.com). Anyone who takes enough steps or earns enough points can then call themselves a BoB Family, BoB Hotel, BoB School, BoB Tourist, etc. [nbsp]The required number of points is determined each year by the BoB jury. It is particularly important that at least half of the jury consists of students from Germany and Denmark—supplemented by representatives from the region.

On the BoB portal, users can find BoB restaurants, BoB accommodations, and more. The movement is complemented by BoB events, BoB challenges, BoB festivals, and BoB giveaways. The movement will gain traction beyond the region, and businesses, residents, and visitors will become familiar with all these small steps and talk about them. In particular, next year’s events and challenges will bring people from both countries together.

In January and February, public information events about BoB will be held in the BoB region—for tourism professionals in the accommodation, food service, leisure and adventure, and retail sectors. All dates for the events, which will take place in Scharbeutz, Grömitz, Kellenhusen, Dahme, Fehmarn, and Heilighafen, can be found at: www.best-of-baltic.com/events

Now we’re all encouraged to check the BoB portal to see if we, too, are BoB and want to be part of this important movement. “We are BoB”—or “Vi er BoB” in Danish—is the slogan. www.best-of-baltic.com. (This website is still under construction in some areas.)

The University of Lübeck is leading the project. The German project partners are the local tourism organizations (LTOs) Lübecker Bucht, OstseeFerienLand, Ostseespitze, and Fehmarn. In addition, there are four project partners on the Danish side and a total of 12 network partners supporting the initiative.
