A Family-Friendly Hotel Paradise in Grömitz
A Family-Friendly Hotel Paradise in Grömitz:
The Grömitz Municipal Council unanimously approves a partnership with the Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group for the construction of a new hotel above the marina
In early 2023, the Grömitz Tourism Service was once again commissioned by the municipal council to begin the search for a suitable hotel partner for the new building above the marina. Following exciting discussions with various investors and operators, the Grömitz Tourism Service was able to secure four suitable partners for the Baltic Sea resort, who presented their initial ideas for a new building on the site above the marina in June 2023. Following further working group and municipal council meetings, a unanimous resolution was passed during the last municipal council meeting of 2023, on 21.12.2023: The Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) has been awarded the contract for the new construction project at the Grömitz marina!
“Good things come to those who wait!” says Manfred Wohnrade, Grömitz’s tourism director, expressing his delight at the municipal council’s decision. “At the end of our search for the ideal hotel partner for the location above the Grömitz marina, we were left with two top candidates, so the final decision was certainly not an easy one for the council. With FMTG and its very clear positioning within the ‘family’ target group, we’re getting a completely new hotel concept for Grömitz—one that’s unlike anything else on the German Baltic Sea coast.” Mayor Sebastian Rieke is also pleased with the decision: “I am very pleased that the municipal council unanimously chose Falkensteiner. This clearly demonstrates the importance of the hotel project for our town and, above all, that it is supported by all political factions. It’s a hotel concept that, in my opinion, will enrich Grömitz and make it more diverse.”
“The famous Baltic Sea resort of Grömitz is, at its core, a family vacation destination. ‘We see great potential here to leverage synergies within the destination’s offerings,’ said Erich Falkensteiner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FMTG. ‘The location in the Bay of Lübeck is also perfect. Thanks to its proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Hamburg and Berlin, we’re reaching entirely new target groups that we’d like to attract as Falkensteiner guests.” According to an image ranking by the business and news magazine GEWINN, Falkensteiner is already the most popular tourism brand among Austrians. But the proportion of German guests at the family-run group’s hotels—especially those from the southern federal states—has also been of great significance for decades. With the first hotel in Germany and the new location on the Baltic Sea, this is now set to be expanded to cover the entire country.
Over the next three years, a Falkensteiner Family Resort in the 4*S/5* premium segment will be built in Grömitz, featuring approximately 130 rooms, suites, and family-friendly apartments that will provide special family vacations with a “wow factor” all year round. In addition to the hotel rooms, there will be a high-quality food [&] beverage offering as well as a spa area, which will also be available to non-residents.
Spacious family and children’s areas will provide a wide variety of entertainment for the hotel’s youngest guests, who will be the focus of the hotel’s operations. “With this high-quality hotel, which will be open year-round, the positioning of Grömitz as an attractive year-round destination can be significantly improved,” explains Wohnrade. “The project is also essential for our local restaurants, service providers, and leisure operators, as it will help them increase revenue through new guests, especially during the colder months. The work over the past year has definitely paid off, and we’re already looking forward to the next steps with the Falkensteiner Group by our side.” Once the land purchase agreement is signed, the detailed design phase can begin, followed by the submission of the building permit application, so construction is currently scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025. “If everything goes as planned and the necessary permits are obtained as quickly as possible, we’ll be able to celebrate the grand opening of the Falkensteiner family hotel in Grömitz in the spring or summer of 2027!”
If you’re already curious and would like to get a glimpse of FMTG’s existing hotels, you can check out the Familienhotel Montafon, for example. Not only is this hotel the only family hotel in Europe that is a member of Leading Hotels of the World, but it was also named Hotel Property of the Year in 2023. The hotel focuses on nature conservation, regional culture, and renewable energy. Highlights include a strong emphasis on regional delicacies and a wide-ranging “ecotainment” program, where young guests can learn, for example, how electricity is generated from water. They can go on excursions to the local hydroelectric power plant and reservoirs, conduct exciting experiments in the hotel’s own lab, or examine snow crystals under a microscope. As “environmental rangers,” they also learn a great deal about forest conservation and species protection during their forays through the woods: www.falkensteiner.com/hotel-montafon. [nbsp]
