Dune Park Grömitz
A new world of experiences right on the beachLocated in the heart of town and right on the beach, Grömitz Dune Park is gradually evolving into a lively gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The first shops and restaurants have already opened, inviting visitors to stroll, relax, and linger.
But there’s more to come: Grömitz Dune Park continues to grow! New concepts are taking shape, additional construction phases are underway—and there’s plenty to discover. You can check out the webcam anytime to see exactly what’s happening on-site and how the Dune Park is developing. We’ve also created a construction diary for you.
Lots of ideas
Even more room for fun in GrömitzTo ensure that Grömitz Dune Park offers everything our guests could wish for, we first asked for their ideas. These were collected, sorted, analyzed, and ultimately distilled into five key areas of focus. These new attractions—both on the beach and inland—will be integrated into recreational facilities, promenades, parks, activity areas, and open spaces for outdoor events. Everything is designed to be natural, low-rise, and, of course, accessible to everyone—just as a recreational facility in Grömitz should be.

Construction Diary - What's happened so far...
Here you can read about the steps we have already taken in planning the Grömitz Dune Park.February/March 2026
February 9 through March 8In the Dünenwelten complex, the subfloor installer has already completed the entire play area. Drywall installers, electricians, and heating and plumbing contractors are already hard at work on the mezzanine level. Spring is finally here, and the temperatures are allowing construction to resume outdoors. Carpenters, roofers, and facade builders have been working for several days now, and the structural engineer also began grouting the facing masonry this week.
January/February 2026
January 26 through February 8The cold winter weather has brought the carpenters to a standstill for now. The roofer and the facade contractor are also waiting for warmer temperatures. Meanwhile, the drywall installer, the heating and plumbing contractor, and the plasterer have made good progress at Dünenwelten.
January 12 – January 25On January 16, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony at Dünenwelten. The carpenters are still working on finishing the tent-style roof with the help of a crane. Inside the building, the electrician has completed the rough wiring on the walls, so the plasterer now has the green light to proceed. The plumbers and drywall installers are also making good progress. The subfloor contractor is scheduled to begin in mid-February.
January 1–11Winter has arrived just in time for the New Year. No work can be done outdoors at Dünenwelten. Roofers, facade contractors, carpenters, and tile setters need frost-free temperatures. Inside the building, the drywall installers, plasterers, electricians, and HVAC technicians resumed work on January 5.
December 2025
December 15–28Almost all the tradespeople worked right up until December 19 and then went on their well-deserved Christmas break. The construction site will be on hold until January 5. Only the interior plasterer was still working on December 22. The facing bricklayer has finished his work, so the grouter will start work in early January, weather permitting. Starting in the second calendar week of 2026, the carpenter will also begin erecting the roof.
December 1–December 14
While the exterior bricklayers are entering the home stretch on the Dünenwelten building, the interior plasterer has already made good progress inside. The entire bowling area has already been plastered. The drywall installer also started work this week. He is beginning on the ground floor by erecting drywall partitions in the restroom area.
October/November 2025
November 17–30
The bricklayers and roofers were slowed down a bit by the brief spell of winter weather, but they have resumed their work. The electrician has made good progress with the rough wiring inside the building, and the plasterer is scheduled to start next week.
November 3 – November 16
The masons have completed a good half of the facing brickwork. The roofers and facade contractors have also made significant progress. Inside Dünenwelten, the electricians and HVAC technicians have continued their installation work.
October 20 – November 2
The masons have started the facing work as scheduled and have already completed one wall. Despite the changeable weather, the roofer and the facade contractor have continued their work on the Dünenwelten.
October 6 – October 19
The structural contractor has completed preparations for the start of the facing wall work. The masons will arrive at Dünenwelten next week. The window installer has finished for now, the roofers have begun installing the sloped insulation, and the facade contractors are installing the facade insulation.
August/September 2025
September 22 through October 5, 2025
The window installer has started work as scheduled and will finish installing the windows and doors at Dünenwelten for the time being next week. The roofer has also taken advantage of the good weather and has welded large sections of the flat roofs.
September 8–21, 2025
The structural engineer has now completed all reinforced concrete work at Dünenwelten and has almost finished removing the formwork. Now it’s time to clean up. The first sections of the foundation slab have already been welded. The facade contractor has begun installing the substructure on the exterior walls as scheduled. The roofer is welding the flat roofs. Next week, the window contractor will also begin installing the windows and doors.
August 25 – September 7, 2025
The structural contractor has completed the concrete work on all the walls on the staggered floor of the Dünenwelten. He has installed the foundation insulation, so the facade contractor can begin work next week. Here, the substructure will first be mounted on the walls.
July/August 2025
August 11–24, 2025
The penthouse level of Dünenwelten is slowly taking shape. The structural engineers have poured concrete for the first two reinforced concrete walls and have already partially removed the formwork. Now the remaining two walls will be formed, reinforced, and then poured. After that, the final floor slab will be poured.
July 28 – August 8, 2025
The ground floor slab above the play area is now completely finished. The structural engineers have also already erected the first reinforced concrete walls on the staggered floor. At the same time, the electricians have run the necessary cables into the floor slab prior to concrete pouring.
July 14–27, 2025
The structural engineer has now settled into a routine at Dünenwelten. In sections, the lightweight slabs are being delivered, laid, reinforced, and poured over the play area. The ground floor slab is slowly taking shape.
June 30 – July 13, 2025
The structural engineer has poured the reinforced concrete beams and has already installed the first filigree ceilings. The rebar benders are now at work here, laying the reinforcement. In addition to the electrician, the heating and plumbing contractors, as well as the HVAC technicians, have also begun work on the Dünenwelten.
May/June 2025
June 16–29, 2025
The steel contractor has completed the installation of the steel beams at Dünenwelten on schedule. Fortunately, everything went smoothly. Now the structural contractor is in the process of forming and reinforcing the reinforced concrete beams. Concrete will be poured next week. The roofer will finish the next section this week. The electricians round out the team of tradespeople at Dünenwelten.
June 2–15, 2025
At Dünenwelten, the structural engineer has now poured concrete around all the columns, including the necessary embedments to support the steel beams. The steel contractor will arrive on Monday. Once the steel beams are delivered, he plans to complete the installation by Wednesday.
May 19 – June 1, 2025
For the short week leading up to Ascension Day, the roofer will still be working alone at the Dünenwelten construction site. On June 2, not only will the structural engineer resume work—having received the prefabricated components from the steel mill—but the electrician will also begin work.
May 5–18, 2025
While the construction site is still waiting for the delivery of the steel components, we have made significant progress—together with our designers and the playground equipment manufacturer—in fine-tuning the individual play areas, floor and wall designs, decorations, and furnishings.
April 28 – May 4, 2025
At Dünenwelten, the roofer is currently the only contractor working on the construction site. The structural engineer is waiting for the steel components that need to be set in concrete at the top of the columns. The steel beams will then be attached there.
April 2025
April 21–27, 2025
The roofer has started work at Dünenwelten. He is installing the first layer of waterproofing membrane on the flat roof above the bowling alley. The water playground next to the Tamatsu has been open again since Easter and is delighting more than just the children.
April 7–20, 2025
All plans for the Dune Worlds have now been approved by the structural engineer, and production of the steel beams is underway. Additional bids have been solicited; our architect has evaluated the proposals and prepared the recommendations for awarding the contracts. At the Beach Club, the carpenter has now completed the remaining work, including the wood paneling of the container and the access path to the beach.
March 31 – April 6, 2025
Bright sunshine on Tuesday, April 1, at noon for the opening of the So(u)l Beach Club. Our tenants have already welcomed numerous curious guests. Meanwhile, a few minor tasks are still being completed. At Dünenwelten, the structural engineers have installed the prefabricated stairs. The roofer will be the next trade to begin work, no later than the week after Easter.
March 2025
March 24–30, 2025
We’re almost there—we’re ready for the opening of the So(u)l Beach Club on April 1. The landscape gardeners have finished planting the dune grass. The carpenters will continue working on the ground-floor terrace until Monday. At Dünenwelten, the structural engineers have poured concrete for the beach-side parapet. The next precast concrete elements (stairs) have arrived and will be installed next week.
March 17–23, 2025
The countdown is on. April 1st is fast approaching, and with it the grand opening of the So(u)l Beach Club here at Dünenpark. The roof terrace has barely been finished by the carpenters, cleaned, and inspected by us, and our tenant has already hauled the furniture up and set it up. With this glorious sunny weather, you really feel like enjoying a cool drink up there with a view of the Baltic Sea. The civil engineer has cleared the storage areas next to the Beach Club and shaped them with sand for planting dune grass. The landscape gardeners are coming on Monday. At Dünenwelten, we’re still waiting for the next prefabricated elements.
March 10–16, 2025
At Dünenwelten, the structural engineers are still busy with masonry and reinforced concrete work. The structural engineer has approved all construction drawings, so the next prefabricated components will be delivered to the site and installed shortly. We have now handed over the Beach Club to our tenants. The rooftop terrace will be finished early next week, and the ground-floor terrace will be ready “just in time” for the opening on April 1. The civil engineer has completed the paving work and will be preparing everything next week for planting dune grass.
March 3–9, 2025
The structural engineers have continued their masonry work in the area of the bowling alley at Dünenwelten. Several sand-lime blocks have already been laid here. At the Beach Club, we’re slowly entering the home stretch. The painter is almost done; he just needs to hang the patterned wallpaper for our tenants. The electrician will be working right up until the opening. He is doing the final wiring for us and, at the same time, installing the lamps and lighting for our tenants. The carpenter is laying the Kebony decking on the upper floor and has begun work on the substructure on the ground floor. Here, the metalworker is assembling the frame to support the windshields, and the civil engineer is starting the paving work in front of the main entrance.
February 2025
February 24 – March 2, 2025
At Dünenwelten, the structural engineer couldn’t do much this week; he’s waiting for the next shipment of precast concrete elements. It’s a completely different story at the Beach Club. Here, the patio roof contractor finished on schedule this week and is clearing the way for the carpenter. The civil engineer has finished the paving work at the delivery area and is now continuing in front of the building. Inside the building, our tenant has already set up tables and chairs and conducted a test cooking session. Electricians and painters are still finishing up their remaining work.
February 17–23, 2025
The bitter cold, with temperatures dropping to minus 10 degrees, has given the structural engineers at Dünenwelten a few days off. Work will resume here on Monday. The terrace roofers braved the cold and began installation work at the Beach Club as scheduled. They are well on schedule and will be finished by the end of next week. The carpenters are starting work today on the terrace flooring on the upper level and will then be able to continue seamlessly on the ground floor. The civil engineer can also resume work on Monday. He will begin with the paving work.
February 10–16, 2025
At Dünenwelten, the structural contractors have now completely poured the reinforced concrete slab over the bowling alley. Masonry work is currently on hold due to the cold temperatures. At the Beach Club, everything is now ready for the construction of the terrace roof. The civil engineers have installed drainage concrete as the subbase for the wooden decking, and the roofers have installed the metal roofing. The roofers have also connected the downspouts.
February 3–9, 2025
We had no complaints about the weather this week either. At the Beach Club, the structural engineers poured the concrete for the terrace canopy and finished installing the brick veneer on the roof terrace parapet. Grouting is scheduled for next week. The civil engineers have already laid the first granite curbstones and installed the gravel base course in the delivery area. Inside the building, our tenant has already spruced up the kitchen (final cleaning) and washed the first batch of dishes. At Dünenwelten, the ceiling panels are now fully installed on the bowling alley as well.
January 2025
January 27 – February 2, 2025
And that wraps up the first month of 2025. January is coming to an end, and the civil engineers have already completed some work at the Beach Club. All underground pipes and cables have been laid, the strip foundations for the terrace roof have been excavated, and now the base layers are being installed. At Dünenwelten, bricklaying can continue thanks to these mild temperatures. Next week, the floor slabs over the bowling alley are scheduled to be laid.
January 20–26, 2025
The civil engineers have finished installing all the drainage pipes at the Beach Club, SO(U)L. They are now constructing the strip foundation for the terrace canopy. Starting in mid-February, the roofing system—consisting of aluminum profiles with a glass roof and under-glass awnings—will be installed. Inside the building, the electricians and interior designers, along with our tenants, are still hard at work. At Dünenwelten, the first filigree slabs have been laid, reinforced, and concreted according to schedule.
January 13–19, 2025
Work continues at the Beach Club, SO(U)L. The mild weather has worked in the civil engineers’ favor. The drainage work is nearly complete. Inside, our electrician is now in charge. All other trades are finished except for minor finishing touches. Our tenants’ kitchen contractors have their final inspection on Friday; all construction dust has been cleared away, so nothing stands in the way of test cooking. The structural engineers at Dünenwelten plan to pour the first concrete slabs next week.
January 6–12, 2025
At the Beach Club, SO[U]L, the contractors have resumed work as scheduled. The scaffolding has been dismantled and removed, and the site has been cleared and tidied up. The civil engineer is now in charge here. Inside the building, the tiler has completed the remaining work. The electrician and the plumber are still working on the final installations. Our tenant’s kitchen contractor is finished, and the interior designers will return next week. Only minor work was done at Dünenwelten; the full crew won’t return there until Monday.
December 30, 2024 – January 5, 2025
We wish everyone interested in Dünenpark a Happy New Year 2025. The construction site will remain closed for the holidays until January 6. Then work will resume. The first step will be to take down the scaffolding at the Beach Club so that the civil engineering contractor can begin their work.
December 2024
December 30, 2024 – January 5, 2025
We wish everyone interested in Dünenpark a Happy New Year 2025. The construction site will remain closed for the holidays until January 6. Then work will resume. The first step will be to take down the scaffolding at the Beach Club so that the civil engineering contractor can begin their work.
December 16–29, 2024
The contractors gave it their all right up until Friday, December 20. At Dünenwelten, the structural engineers finished pouring the reinforced concrete walls and installed the filigree ceilings. At the Beach Club, the roofer prepared the green roofs, and the window installer fitted the front door and connected it to the electrical system. The tiler has finished tiling the accessible restroom, and the electrician is still working on the final installations. Our tenant’s kitchen contractor has also finished and is already looking forward to the test cooking in early January. Now the Christmas holidays are upon us, and hopefully everyone will get some rest and relaxation. We wish everyone interested in Dünenpark a Merry Christmas and hope you’ll stay with us in the new year 2025.
December 9–15, 2024
At the Dünenwelten, additional reinforced concrete walls have been erected. In addition, the first precast staircase has been installed. The structural engineers are already installing lightweight concrete ceilings on the ground floor. At the Beach Club, the roofer has installed the downspouts and the metalworker has installed the glass panels on the terrace railing. Inside the building, electricians and plumbers are continuing with the final installation work. Painters and floor installers round out the team of tradespeople. The HVAC contractor has completed his work.
December 2–8, 2024
At Dünenwelten, the bricklaying continues nonstop. Preparations are underway for the installation of the first filigree ceilings. At the Beach Club, the plumber has begun final installation. The electrician still has some wiring work to do in the junction boxes. The signage technicians have installed the lettering “SO(U)L, Beachclub & Restaurant” on the building in three locations using white, illuminated letters. Our operator’s kitchen contractor, the floor installer, and the painter were also hard at work this week.
November 2024
November 25 – December 1, 2024
The Beach Club is slowly taking shape. Our tenants have already had the large wine cooler delivered and installed. It looks really great. Otherwise, electricians, HVAC contractors, painters, tilers, and floor installers are entering the home stretch. At Dünenwelten, a load of sand-lime bricks is now being delivered and installed almost daily. The mild weather is working in the masons’ favor. The landscape gardener has planted three more trees in the water playground area and added more dune grass.
November 18–24, 2024
The foundation slab for the Dünenwelten has now been fully poured. The next precast reinforced concrete walls have been erected, and the civil engineer has already laid part of the drainage pipe. At the Beach Club, our craftsmen are working alongside the kitchen installers and our tenants’ interior designers. The natural stone mason finished the stair treads this week.
November 11–17, 2024
At Dünenwelten, the structural contractor is really stepping on the gas. All the underground utilities are now in place, the subgrade has been prepared, and insulation is being installed. Once the rebar installers have laid the reinforcement, the second section of the foundation slab can be poured. In addition, the next prefabricated reinforced concrete walls are being delivered and installed. Things are also moving full steam ahead at the Beach Club. Here, the structural contractor is now only working on the exterior facade. The interior of the building is now in the hands of the finishing trades. Starting Monday, our operator’s interior designer will also be arriving.
November 4–10, 2024
At the Dune Worlds, the first precast reinforced concrete walls were delivered and installed this week, and sand-lime bricks for the masonry work were also delivered. We made significant progress this week in selecting a contractor for the design and construction of the Play World. The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of the year. At the Beach Club, the floor installer has finished the flooring on the ground floor. On the mezzanine level, the metalworker is currently building the balustrade, after which the flooring will be laid here as well. Electricians, tile setters, painters, and roofers are, of course, still hard at work.
October 2024
October 28 – November 3, 2024
At Dünenwelten, the first section of the foundation slab was poured this week. Now the drainage pipes need to be laid again. Then, as usual, insulation and reinforcement will be installed before the second section of the foundation slab is poured. At the Beach Club, the window installer has mounted the awnings, and the roofer has also made good progress. On Friday and Saturday, the floor installer plans to lay the flooring on the ground floor.
October 21–27, 2024
There’s a lot going on at Dünenwelten. Insulation is already being installed on the site, followed by the reinforcement, and the first section of the floor slab will be poured next week. Unfortunately, the roofer at the Beach Club has fallen a bit behind schedule. He has promised to catch up next week. Inside the building, electricians, painters, HVAC technicians, and tile setters are keeping busy. The plumber is waiting for final installation, and the civil engineer will begin as soon as the scaffolding is removed. Work on the CHP tower will also be completed next week. The scaffolding will then be dismantled in calendar week 45.
October 14–20, 2024
The civil engineer has now completed work on the new promenade and is waiting for the construction site at the Beach Club to be cleared. The playground next to the Junge Bakery and the parking spaces near the multifunctional building (Dünenwelten) will not be constructed until shortly before Dünenwelten opens. At the Dünenwelten construction site, the structural contractor is still on schedule. Speaking of on schedule: As announced by our planner, we published the next calls for bids for Dünenwelten this week. At the Beach Club, the roofer has taken advantage of the good weather over the past few days and is nearing completion. The heating contractor has put the heating system into operation. Electricians, painters, and tilers are probably already dreaming about the Beach Club at night.
October 7–13, 2024
At Dünenwelten, the structural engineers have poured the concrete slab for the bowling alley area. Work continues at a steady pace with soil excavation, formwork installation, rebar placement, and concrete pouring. Our designers have also been hard at work. The next calls for bids for the Dünenwelten will be published next week. At the Beach Club, our tenant’s kitchen contractor is now getting started. Tile setters, painters, and HVAC contractors are working on the upper floor. The heating contractor plans to commission the heating system shortly. The civil engineers have paved the bicycle parking area next to the gymnastics and playground equipment and installed the bike racks.
September 2024
September 23 – October 6, 2024
On October 2, the floor coater will finish his work in the kitchen and storage area. Then, after the long weekend, our tenant’s kitchen contractor can get started. The floor installer has completed the preliminary work and is waiting for the flooring to be delivered. The tile setter is still working on the upper floor. The HVAC contractor is now also completing the remaining work there. At Dünenwelten, reinforcement is still being laid diligently and concrete is being poured in sections. Before German Unity Day, the reinforcement in the area of the future bowling alley is to be laid. The civil engineers have set up the gymnastics and sports equipment area next to the bouldering wall and have already installed the safety sand. In front of it, a small paved area for bike racks is still being created.
September 16–22, 2024
Floor finishers and floor installers are well on their way with the Beach Club. While the floor finishers continue to work on the kitchen and storage areas, the floor installers are tackling the common areas on the upper floor and will move on to the dining area on the ground floor next week. Painters, window installers, electricians, HVAC technicians, and tile setters are also hard at work. At Dünenwelten, the first concrete has been poured. The rebar benders are continuing to diligently weave the reinforcement cages so that the concrete can be poured in sections.
September 9–15, 2024
At the Beach Club, the subfloor installer has now completed the remaining work. On the ground floor, the floor finisher will begin work in the kitchen and storage areas next week. The tile setter is continuing on the upper floor, and painters, HVAC technicians, electricians, and heating engineers are also moving the construction forward. At Dünenwelten, the first reinforcing steel has arrived on the construction site. First, the elevator pit will be prepared and poured next week. At the same time, the strip foundations are being excavated and fitted with permanent formwork, including insulation and reinforcement. Here, too, the concrete will be poured in sections.
September 2–8, 2024
September begins just as August ended, with perfect weather for both vacationing and construction. At Dünenwelten, the civil engineer has finished laying the underground utilities in the first section. Now the structural engineer is stepping in to begin the foundation work. At the Beach Club, every effort continues to be made to ensure that our tenant can gradually start carrying out initial work in parallel with the building’s completion. The steel contractor has begun installing the exterior staircase (emergency exit). The civil engineer is laying the storm and wastewater pipes.
August 2024
August 26 – September 1, 2024
Another week has flown by, and tonight our mega-event “Baltic Sea in Flames” is taking place. Especially for this event, we’ve cleaned the webcam on the CHP tower and mounted it so that the scaffolding is no longer visible. At Dünenwelten, the civil engineer is making good progress on schedule with the installation of the drainage pipes. In the kitchen area of Dünenwelten, many green shoots are already peeking out of the ground. On Monday, the structural engineer will be back from vacation and will hopefully approve the next reinforcement plans. The Beach Club currently has the highest concentration of tradespeople. The screed layer is preparing to install the final screed surfaces; everything should be finished by Saturday. Tile setters, window installers, ventilation technicians, electricians, heating and plumbing installers, and even the painter are all working diligently toward the opening. Outside, the civil engineer is busy laying the sewage and stormwater pipes.
August 19–25, 2024
Work on the Dünenwelten construction site is finally picking up speed. The grease trap has been installed, and the drainage plan has been approved, so work on laying the underground pipes will begin on Monday. The structural engineer has also returned the three binders to us with green stamps. The structural contractor is ordering the rebar and will be able to move on to the foundations immediately after the piping work is complete. Work is also proceeding diligently at the Beach Club. The civil engineer has now laid all the utility lines in the utility room and backfilled the pipe trenches. The tiler has started laying the wall tiles in the kitchen, while the plasterer and the HVAC technician are working in the other rooms of the Beach Club. The CHP tower is now covered in scaffolding; the painter will begin work here next week as well.
August 5–18, 2024
The water playground next to the Tamatsu is so popular with visitors to the Dune Park that the pumped water can’t seep into the ground fast enough. We’ve now enlarged the drainage shaft and also grouted a few loose stones so the children can continue to play safely. Things are also moving forward at the Beach Club; the painter is already doing the spackling and painting. Our tenant’s kitchen contractor is also already on the job and working hand in hand with the ventilation contractor. What’s actually happening at Dünenwelten? Construction will finally begin next week, after we had to wait for approvals from the structural engineer and delivery dates from the building materials industry.
July 2024
July 22 – August 4, 2024
The water playground next to the Tamatsu is a hit with visitors to the Dune Park. In the fall, the new plantings will make it even greener and more inviting. The civil engineers have now cleared a space on the Beach Club property. The excavation for the grease trap is complete. On Monday, the mobile crane will arrive and lift the trap directly from the supplier’s truck into the excavation. Once the excavation pit is backfilled, the utility lines (electricity, water, district heating, fiber optics) will be laid into the utility room. The screed installer will begin laying the screed on Monday, starting on the penthouse level. Work is also set to resume at Dünenwelten now that the structural engineer has approved the documents.
July 15–21, 2024
Today is another special day at Dünenpark. Not only does summer begin today, but at 12:30 p.m. the water playground next to Tamatsu will also open for children of all ages. In addition, we have put the electronic bollards into operation today on Promenadenweg A (between Marc & Daniel and 5 Secrets) and Promenadenweg B (between Bäckerei Junge and the beach kiosk). From 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the bollards are lowered, allowing delivery traffic to access the businesses. Starting at 10 a.m., the bollards will rise, and the promenade will no longer be accessible to vehicles, even to those unfamiliar with the area. At the Beach Club, the heating contractor has begun installing the underfloor heating. The window installer will also be back next week.
July 8–14, 2024
At the Beach Club, the subfloor installers have now completed the first phase of work. Next week, they’ll lay the insulation, and the heating contractor will install the underfloor heating. The carpenter has already been hard at work on the Kebony facade. It looks really stylish. The water play area is slowly taking shape and should be finished next week. Next week, we also plan to activate the retractable bollards at the end of Promenade Path A and at the beginning of Promenade Path B. Then, resident and delivery traffic will only be allowed on the Kurpromenade between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
July 1–7, 2024
Of course, it’s not always sunny on a construction site—just like in real life. At the Beach Club, the screed layer’s schedule has been pushed back again. Starting Wednesday, the screed layer has finally begun work and will complete the first phase by Saturday as planned. And at Dünenwelten, there were also a few coordination issues with the structural engineer. However, these have now been resolved, and the structural contractor can continue work next week. Our civil engineer is currently laying the stones for the water channel at the water playground. The outer path around the playground is already finished. All that’s missing here are the benches.
June 2024
June 17–30, 2024
At the “Dünenwelten” construction site, the structural contractor has now taken charge. The soil engineer has approved the subgrade, and the first step is to install and compact 20 cm of frost protection material. After that, work will begin on the drainage channel and the foundation. At the Beach Club, the final preparations for the screed layer are currently underway. Plasterers, drywall installers, window installers, and plumbers will have everything ready by the middle of next week so that the screed layer can then begin pouring the leveling compound. At the same time, the HVAC contractor is continuing to work on the risers, which will then be enclosed by the drywall team. Yes, yes, there’s a lot going on at the Beach Club. The civil engineer and his electrician installed the two remaining Poa units today. It really looks great—our planner came up with a brilliant design. Work on the water playground next to the Tamatsu will be completed by early July.
June 10–16, 2024
At the “Dünenwelten” construction site, the civil engineer will finish preparing the subgrade by Monday at the latest. The structural engineer will then take over the subgrade, which will first be inspected and approved by the soil engineer. At the Beach Club, the drywall installer, the HVAC contractor, and the window installer have been working hard this week. The plasterer will return on Monday, and the screed contractor will begin work in calendar week 26.
June 3–9, 2024
On Tuesday, we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dünenwelten (multifunctional building). Starting Wednesday, the construction crane was erected, and at the same time, the civil engineer began the earthwork. Completion is scheduled for late 2025/early 2026. At the Beach Club, the plasterer is now working on the entire building. He will finish by the end of next week and hand the baton over to the screed layer.
May 2024
May 27 – June 2, 2024
The Dünen Days, which begin this Thursday at Dünenpark, have been very well received. Kudos to the events department, our tenants, and the residents of Dünenpark. The civil engineers are continuing to prepare the site for the start of construction on Dünenwelten. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place next week. At the Beach Club, we have now finalized all the details together with our tenants, so we can now focus fully on the construction. However, completion of the building and its associated outdoor facilities will not be possible before September. Our tenants have also received the green light for an outdoor bar, which is to be built near the beach. We are all looking forward to it.
May 20–26, 2024
The short work weeks are finally over. But May is already coming to an end as well. From May 30 to June 2, the Dünendays will take place for the first time in Dünenpark. Our events department has put together a fantastic program in collaboration with our tenants and other local residents. On the sun deck next to the DLRG, the civil engineer has set up the three gymnastics and sports stations. Construction on the water playground behind the Tamatsu is continuing, and the construction site for the Dünenwelten is almost clear. At the Beach Club, the contractors are right on schedule; the plasterer is coming on Monday. The ventilation contractor also began installation work this week.
May 13–19, 2024
Pentecost is just around the corner. Just in time for the long weekend, the renovation of the staircase over the dike at Dünenweg 1 was completed today. At the Beach Club, the workers are working hard toward the plastering deadline, which is scheduled for the 22nd calendar week. So that the plasterer can set up his silo, the meeting container is already being moved to the next construction site, Dünenwelten. Construction there begins in the 23rd calendar week.
May 6–12, 2024
We’ve now discussed pretty much all the construction details for the Beach Club with our planners, tenants, and contractors. Now it’s full steam ahead so the Beach Club can open this summer. There’s news from Dünenwelten. The civil engineer is in the process of clearing the construction site. The surveyor is ready to stake out the building, and then we plan to celebrate the groundbreaking in early June. We haven’t lost sight of the water playground either; work there will continue next week.
April 2024
April 29 – May 5, 2024
It’s already May—time really does fly. But even during this split workweek, everyone kept busy. At the Beach Club, the structural contractor has already dismantled and removed the crane. The window installers, electricians, and heating and plumbing contractors are still hard at work here. Our tenants opened the outdoor bar with a food truck and seating on the beach on May 1. The civil engineers are continuing to work on the water playground and are preparing to clear the “Dünenwelten” property. We plan to start construction there in June.
April 15–28, 2024
Things are in full swing at the Beach Club construction site. The structural contractor is finishing up a few remaining tasks before the crane is dismantled and hauled away. Roofers and window installers are completing the building’s exterior, while inside, electricians, heating and plumbing contractors, and HVAC technicians are sharing the workspace. The plasterer is already waiting for his turn. The civil engineer has installed the three swivel benches at Brückenplatz and additional benches near the coffee roastery and the water feature in front of the Gosch restaurant. The pavers are now working on the junction of Promenadenweg A and B with the access road, where large granite pavers are being laid. The area for the Dünenwelten construction site is being cleared so that we can begin earthwork, drainage, and structural work in June.
April 8–14, 2024
The big meeting at the Beach Club with planners, operators, the client, and contractors was very productive. Now the finishing trades are really stepping up the pace, led by our Grömitz-based heating and plumbing company. The HVAC contractors have brought all the components to the penthouse level, and the window installer has also started work and is even on the job on Saturdays. The civil engineers have started work on the water playground behind the Tamatsu; retaining walls have been installed, and the backfilling of the path was inspected by our engineering firm and us. You can already see some progress. At the CHP plant, the civil engineers are constructing the access road, and the construction sign has been moved above the path area. It will remain there until the end of the entire construction project.
April 1–7, 2024
The topping-out ceremony on Maundy Thursday was a great success. Our tenants did a fantastic job of treating the guests to food and drinks. The carpenters impressively belted out the traditional topping-out song from the roof. This week, things have been quiet at the Beach Club construction site. The window installers are coming on Monday, and on Tuesday there will be a major meeting with our planners and the contractors. Then, hopefully, the storm will follow (after the calm). The civil engineers continued setting up tables and benches and reinstalled the brass plates that had been stored at the building yard back into the promenade, specifically in the area from Restaurant Falkenthal toward Café Lys. The landscapers planted the remaining dunes and have already moved on.
March 2024
March 25–31, 2024
Easter is here already—how quickly time flies! But we’ve managed to accomplish almost everything we set out to do. The area in front of the bridge has been completely paved, the path to the small pier has been restored, and the small pier is open again. The gardeners have planted the remaining dunes, and after Easter, these will be protected with small sand-trapping fences. Please do not walk on the dunes! Today, Maundy Thursday, not only will the paid parking spaces on the dike behind Bäckerei Junge be opened, but the sun deck will also be accessible to everyone. If the weather cooperates, we’ll set up tables and benches today. The most important event today is undoubtedly the topping-out ceremony at the Beach Club. The planners, engineers, craftsmen, operators, and the Grömitz Tourism Service are all pleased that we can reach this milestone before Easter.
March 18–24, 2024
The carpenters have now finished all preparations for the topping-out ceremony at the Beach Club. Our tenants are pulling out all the stops to provide refreshments for the craftsmen, planners, construction workers, and guests attending the ceremony. Another milestone has been reached at Dünenpark. The civil engineers are also finishing the sun deck just in time. We are expecting the technical inspection for the bouldering wall next week. The gardeners have planted the first dunes in the beach area; these will soon be equipped with sand-trapping fences. The access path to the small pier will open early next week. Lots going on at Dünenpark before Easter.
March 11–17, 2024
The roof trusses on the Beach Club have been installed, and the carpenters are now finishing the roof. The topping-out ceremony is just around the corner and will take place before Easter. The final finishing touches are being made on the sun deck. The civil engineer is now restoring the path to the small pier, which was completely washed away during the storm surge on October 20, 2023. Next week, the newly created dunes on the beach are also scheduled to be planted. In addition, we plan to set up a few tables and benches by March 28.
March 4–10, 2024
The masons have started the facing masonry work at the Beach Club as scheduled. The carpenter is continuing to build the substructure for the wooden facade and is eagerly awaiting the curved roof trusses, which are scheduled to be delivered in the middle of next week and installed immediately thereafter. The wooden cladding on the wall at Brückenplatz is also nearing completion. The civil engineer has finished the sand fill for the dunes on the beach. The paving crew is now paving the area in front of the seating wall at the Falkenthal restaurant; this is where the popular crêpe stand will be located over the summer.
February 2024
February 26 – March 3, 2024
The weather this week has been absolutely fantastic for the Dünenpark construction site. The structural engineers have almost finished the reinforced concrete work at the Beach Club. Next week, the masons will begin work on the facing masonry. The carpenters have now also started work on the Beach Club; they are constructing the substructure for the wooden facade. The bench at the coffee roastery is ready for use, but it will take a few more days at the bridge plaza. The pavers are also hard at work and have started on the large granite pavers along Promenadenweg A. Haven’t heard anything from Dünenwelten in a while. Our architect has been hard at work; he has finalized the tender documents for the earthwork, drainage, and structural work. Following the calculation phase, the bid opening, and the awarding of the contract, the groundbreaking ceremony can take place in mid-May. We’re really looking forward to it.
February 19–25, 2024
Easter is just around the corner. But we’re well on our way to presenting a beautiful dune park to guests and locals alike. On the sun deck, the carpenters are still putting up the pergola; then the tables and benches will be installed in March. The wood paneling on the old promenade wall is also finished. The civil engineer has delivered and pre-shaped the sand for the dunes in front of the old wall. The gardener is handling the finishing touches. The pavers are currently paving Promenade Path A, and the electrician also plans to install a few more light poles by Maundy Thursday. The structural engineers have poured concrete for the final reinforced concrete columns at the Beach Club and have already removed the formwork.
February 12–18, 2024
The weather was mixed again this week. However, temperatures were high enough that the structural engineers were able to pour the final reinforced concrete walls at the Beach Club as scheduled. The civil engineers, along with their paving crew, paved the parking spaces on Promenadenweg A (behind Marc&Daniel/Kiosk) and have already laid the subbase for the roadway. The carpenters have finished the first seating areas on the old promenade wall, which have been very well received by locals and visitors alike. Kudos to the landscape architect.
February 5–11, 2024
On Monday and Tuesday, the saying “if only it had all been snow” really rang true. Rain, rain, nothing but rain. The civil engineers and carpenters didn’t even bother heading out. The structural engineers braved the weather and actually poured the slab for the penthouse floor on Wednesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, the civil engineers were also able to continue working on the parking lot, and the carpenters on the sun deck and the wooden cladding of the promenade wall. On Friday, they were halted again by snowfall and a bit of wind. Easter isn’t far off now; provided the weather cooperates, we hope to get quite a bit done by then.
January 2024
January 29 – February 4, 2024
On Tuesday, the structural contractor poured the concrete for the upper floor slab as scheduled. With this sunny weather, the work is really enjoyable again. The carpenters are finishing up the work on the sun deck and have already started installing the wooden cladding to create seating along the old promenade wall. The civil engineers have completed the earthwork for the parking lot, and the pavers have been hard at work setting the granite curbstones here as well.
January 22–28, 2024
The structural contractor has installed most of the precast filigree ceilings at the Beach Club. The electrician has begun laying the cables that will be embedded in the concrete ceiling. The carpenters have almost finished the sun deck in front of the bouldering wall, and the civil engineer has also completed the earthwork for the parking spaces behind the buildings in the middle group (8c and 8d) and will install the street drains next week.
January 15–21, 2024
The structural contractor was able to get a few more tasks done at the Beach Club this week. However, the filigree ceilings had to be stored on-site for the time being. After Friday’s snowfall, it was time for an early weekend. The weather is expected to get milder starting Monday, so hopefully bricklaying can resume then.
January 8–14, 2024
We wish everyone interested in Dünenpark a happy, prosperous, and above all healthy 2024. Due to the freezing weather conditions, the civil engineers and their paving crew have extended their Christmas break. They will not be returning to work next week either. At the Beach Club, the structural engineers have resumed work as of Wednesday despite the adverse conditions. They intend to complete the preparatory work for the delivery of the filigree ceiling this coming Thursday and do not plan to postpone the delivery date.
November/December 2023
December 25, 2023 – January 7, 2024
The civil engineers and their paving crew managed to pull it off after all. They’ve completed the new spa promenade. Now you can stroll from Restaurant Gosch to Restaurant Falkenthal, passing by the shops in the middle building complex. The structural engineers at the Beach Club also worked right up until December 22, pouring concrete for walls, laying brickwork, and pouring concrete for the reinforced concrete columns on the upper floor. For now, things have quieted down on the construction site. We wish everyone interested in Dünenpark a merry and peaceful Christmas and, of course, a happy New Year. We’ll be back in touch starting January 8.
December 11 – December 24
Winter has now set in, bringing construction work in Dünenpark to a standstill over the past 10 days. The weather is expected to warm up again this week. Then the civil engineers and pavers will resume work and finish the new spa promenade all the way to the Falkenthal Restaurant. The structural engineers at the Beach Club also plan to keep working until December 22 before heading off for the Christmas break.
November 27 – December 10
What a special day it was for the Dünenpark project on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Around noon, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport, Labor, Technology, and Tourism for the State of Schleswig-Holstein, Mr. Claus Ruhe Madsen, visited us and personally presented us with the grant notification for just under 8.4 million euros for the construction of the Dünenwelten (multifunctional building). Then, at 5:00 p.m. that afternoon, the Tamatsu (Central Building Group 8a) opened. Over 100 invited guests were able to experience the fine cuisine of our tenant, Tashi Tamatsu, and the cozy, well-appointed restaurant. Currently, the civil engineers and their paving crew are still at work. Weather permitting, the new spa promenade up to Restaurant Falkenthal is scheduled for completion this week. The landscape gardeners will also finish the planting work by early December. At the Beach Club, too, the structural engineers are right on schedule. Despite the sometimes very unpleasant November weather, there have been hardly any lost work hours.
November 2023
November 13 – November 26
We did it. Now the last of the new shops, number 8a—Tamatsu—has been opened by our tenant. All the best and much success, Tashi! Work is also continuing apace at the Beach Club; the ground floor slab is being poured, and then we’ll move right on to the walls of the upper floor. The civil engineers and the paving crew are in the process of completing the new spa promenade up to the “Falkenthal” junction. All the granite curbstones are in place; now it’s time to pave and pave. And the landscape gardeners have also begun to bring some color to the gray November days. So what’s the latest on the multifunctional building, the Dünenwelten? We can reveal that we’re expecting visitors from Kiel this week—from the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Labor, Technology, and Tourism of the State of Schleswig-Holstein! But please don’t tell anyone.
November 6–12
There’s no turning back now. Our tenant has announced the opening date of November 15 for the “Central Building Group 8a” (Tamatsu). The tradespeople are in the final stretch. Our craftsmen are working hand in hand with our tenant’s kitchen builders and shopfitters. Outside, the civil engineers and the paving crew are still on schedule. The same goes for the structural engineers at the Beach Club. Here, they are busy laying bricks, setting up formwork, and installing the reinforcement for the reinforced concrete walls.
October 2–8
The foundation of the beach club (SOUL) is complete. This week, masonry work and construction on the reinforced concrete walls will begin. At Shops 8a (Tamatsu), every effort is still being made to ensure that the grand opening can take place on Reformation Day (October 31). Civil engineers, stonemasons, drywall installers, tile setters, painters, HVAC technicians, and the operator’s kitchen contractor are all hard at work in and around the 15 x 15-meter building. Working hand in hand, they aim to ensure timely completion. The day we receive the grant approval notice for the multifunctional building (Dünenwelt) is drawing closer. We’re already excited to see who will come visit us in Grömitz.

The ventilation contractor has reviewed his construction plans, ordered materials, and is ready to go. At the middle building group, the structural contractor is still working on formwork, reinforcement, and concrete pouring. Additionally, the drainage and stormwater pipes are being diligently installed in the outdoor area. The civil engineer is beginning to clear the site in the Dünenwelten area.
October 24–30, 2022
The civil engineers are already getting started on building the access road and the accompanying parking spaces. They are first constructing the road subbase before laying the paving stones. At the Surf Rescue Club, the screed layer is now in charge for the next three weeks. Drywall installers, electricians, and heating and plumbing contractors are nevertheless continuing to work nonstop. The carpenter is starting to clad the exterior facade. The structural work on the shops will be completed next week, so the carpenter will then have clear access to the site. For Dünenwelten, the review of the grant application is underway in Kiel. At the same time, the building permit application is now being submitted.
October 10–23, 2022
Civil engineers are already laying the foundation for the new spa promenade, the access road, and the new parking spaces as far as possible. Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG and its contractors have already pushed the conduit pipes through the dike to supply power to the Dune Park. At the Surf Rescue Club, the plasterer has finished and is seamlessly handing the baton over to the screed layer. Drywall installers, electricians, and plumbing and heating installers can take a brief breather. Once the screed is complete, work will resume at full speed. At the Middle Building Group, the structural contractor is almost finished with the foundation slabs. What about the Beach Club? The architect has finished the building permit application. In parallel with submitting the application, he is preparing the bid documents for the structural work. This is scheduled to be contracted out before Christmas. Construction is set to begin in January, following the issuance of the building permit.
October 3–9, 2022
Now that the Pappelallee parking lot has reopened, the civil engineers have also completed the final trench work on schedule by September 30. Cleaning continues at a brisk pace at the Surf Rescue Club. Drywall installers, electricians, and plumbing and heating contractors have already begun work on the ground floor, so the subfloor installer now has clear access to the mezzanine and first floor. At the shops, the first concrete has been poured into the reinforced foundation trenches. After German Unity Day on Monday, work will resume at full speed. Some of the DLRG containers are already being removed.
September 2022
September 26 – October 2, 2022
The Pappelallee parking lot will reopen on Tuesday. In addition, the Surf Rescue Club construction site and storage shed will once again be accessible and able to receive deliveries from Pappelallee. The first transformer station will be delivered and installed this week. The final cables are being laid along the sidewalk near Falkenthal; a temporary sidewalk will be constructed beforehand. At the Surf Rescue Club, the plasterer has reached the ground floor. Structural work on the shops is in full swing.
September 12–25, 2022
The Pappelallee parking lot will be completed by the end of September and will then be reopened for parking. All utility and cable trenches will be backfilled on schedule by October 1. The structural contractor is beginning foundation work on the central building complex. At the Surf Rescue Club, the plasterer is entering the home stretch. The electrical, heating, and plumbing contractors are right on schedule, so the subfloor contractor has been scheduled for the 41st calendar week. The grant application for the multifunctional building is complete and already on its way to Kiel.
September 5–11, 2022
The pavers are now in charge at the Pappelallee parking lot. The parking spaces are almost completely paved with gray rectangular pavers. Now they’re moving on to the roadway. Here, the yellow-and-green concrete pavers are being laid. At the Surf Rescue Club, the electricians and the heating and plumbing installers have finished their work. They completed their tasks before the plasterer arrived, so the plasterer will begin his work this week as scheduled.
Now that all the wiring has been installed in the drywall, the drywall installer can begin closing up the first walls.
The shops are still missing a few approved reinforcement plans. Once these are available, the structural contractor will be able to pour the foundation slabs all at once. The carpenter has already started building the walls here. The final calls for bids for the shops will also be published this week. All the tenants are already on board. We’re looking forward to working with them.
August 2022
August 29 – September 4, 2022
The civil engineers have backfilled the excavation pit for the renovation of the sewage and stormwater pipes in the Pappelallee parking lot and have already laid the first curbstones. Work is continuing on the drainage system and paving. Work is still in full swing at the Surf Rescue Club. The drywall contractor is already finishing the first drywall walls. Electricians, heating, and plumbing installers are moving from room to room and barely have time to glance at the beautiful Baltic Sea. The roofer has completed the roof of the storage shed, including the gutter, prepared the measurements for the aluminum wall copings, and sent them to the manufacturer. The final coordination with the carpenter has been completed. As soon as the wall copings are installed, the carpenter will also begin work on the exterior facade of the Surf Rescue Club.
August 15–28, 2022
The civil engineers have nearly finished laying the pipes for Hansewerk Natur and are now busy laying cables. The manhole components and gate valves for the sewage and stormwater drains in the Pappelallee parking lot have finally arrived, so that once the necessary repair work for the Karkbrook Special-Purpose Association is complete, the parking lot can be restored.
At the Surf Rescue Club, drywall installers, electricians, and plumbers are continuing to work according to schedule; the plasterer is already on site. Coordination meetings have been held with the carpenter, materials have been ordered, and he will begin work on the exterior facade of the Surf Rescue Club next week. The roofer is finishing the roof of the storage shed.
August 8–14, 2022
On the civil engineering side, the pipe layers from Hansewerk Natur GmbH are already entering the home stretch. The coordination between trench excavation, backfilling, pipe laying, and insulation is going very smoothly. This week, Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG and its subcontractors are also set to begin work; they are eagerly awaited. The manhole components for the Pappelallee parking lot will be delivered by the end of the week; paving work is currently continuing here. At the Surf Rescue Club (DLRG station & hostel), work continues in close coordination. Here, too, the collaboration between drywall installers, electricians, and plumbers is commendable. The window installer has finished all but one element in the stairwell. The windows for the storage shed have been measured and ordered.
Construction workers are now starting work on the central group of buildings (shops).
The building permit application for the Beach Club is currently being processed, as is the grant application for Dünenwelt (indoor play area, bowling alley, and event spaces).
There's plenty going on at Dünenpark.
August 1–7, 2022
Last Wednesday, the drywall installer finally started work at the Surf Rescue Club (DLRG station & hostel). The good news is that he’ll be working nonstop until August 19, since he’s booked accommodations for his crew until then. Working at Dünenpark is almost like being on vacation. ;-)
The window installer will finish up this week. The electricians, heating engineers, and plumbers are continuing to work on their respective tasks. The civil engineer will be digging the final trenches for the heating supply lines this week. The collaboration with the pipe-laying company and the insulation contractor is going very smoothly, so the trenches can be backfilled and compacted quickly.
The parking lot on Pappelallee is already being paved this week.
July 2022
July 25–31, 2022
The installation of the plastic windows will continue this week. The drywall contractor is starting work. For now, the drywall walls are being sheathed on one side. Electrical and plumbing installations in the building are continuing. The civil engineer is already backfilling the first trenches for the laid heating supply lines. The renovation of the Pappelallee parking lot is progressing, and the installation of the sewer lines under the foundation slabs of the central building group is also continuing.
July 18–24, 2022
The carpenters have finished work on the storage shed; now it’s the roofer’s turn. Installation of the aluminum panels, exterior doors, and windows will continue this week.
In addition, starting this week, the plastic windows will be installed, beginning on the first floor. The civil engineers are still working on renovating the Pappelallee parking lot and doing the earthwork for laying the local heating pipeline. The structural contractor is finishing the floor slab on the ground floor, and the interior door installer has almost finished installing all the door frames. Electricians and heating/plumbing installers round out the construction team. There’s certainly a lot going on at Dünenpark.
Oh, and the structural contractor is also continuing to install the sewer lines beneath the foundation slabs of the central building group (MGG).
July 11–17, 2022
The topping-out ceremony for the DLRG facility and storage shed was a lively affair and well attended. According to tradition, it is meant to ward off harm from the building and its occupants. The carpenters are continuing to work on the roof structure of the storage shed. The windows for the main building will be delivered this week. Coordination meetings will then take place between the site management, the structural engineers, and the carpenters to ensure that the windows can be installed quickly and professionally. The civil engineers are continuing to work on the renovation of the Pappelallee parking lot and are digging the trenches for the installation of the local heating pipeline.
July 4–10, 2022
The carpenters will begin work on the storage shed this week. The prefabricated walls will be erected and the roof will be installed. Just under a year after the cornerstone was laid, the topping-out ceremony for the DLRG facility and storage shed will take place at the end of this week. Everyone involved in the construction is really looking forward to this event and the carpenter’s traditional toast. The roofers have finished all the flat roofs. The bricklayers have also completed their work. The electrician is continuing to cut channels on the ground floor, and the drywall installer is marking out the drywall on the upper floor. The civil engineers are continuing to lay the curbstones at the Pappelallee parking lot.
June 2022
June 27 – July 3, 2022
Now that the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Ostholstein district has approved the summer felling of the missing trees, the work is being carried out. The roofers have completed the roofs of the penthouse and the first floor and will finish the rest this week, weather permitting. The masons remain undeterred and have set the day after the topping-out ceremony as their completion target. All other trades are on schedule. The carpenter, window installer, door installer, and drywall installer will begin work shortly.
June 20–26, 2022
The earthwork for the central group of buildings is complete. The civil engineer is now focusing on the “Pappelallee” parking lot, first completing drainage work and then beginning the paving work. A tree expert has determined that, unfortunately, all six trees in the middle of the parking lot are beyond saving (they are approximately 32 to 35 years old, the trunks have bark damage from the base to the crown, and some have rot in the heartwood). These will be removed, and after the parking lot is completed, seven new trees suitable for the site will be planted in the fall. The roofer is making good progress and will continue at full speed this week; the weather is certainly working in his favor. Caution: Risk of sunburn!!! And the masons—they’re still laying bricks.
June 13–19, 2022
The civil engineer is continuing work on the “Pappelallee” parking lot. The construction site has been completely cordoned off, and the footpath across the dike has been rerouted. Gravel backfilling for the central group of buildings is ongoing. Deliveries by semi-trucks continue via Schützenstraße/Stettiner Straße. The roofer has received all of his materials—thermal insulation boards and bitumen membranes—and is beginning installation. The masons are already dreaming of the “olfry grauweiß de luxe” thin-format facing bricks, but are slowly entering the home stretch.
June 6–12, 2022
The civil engineer has set up the construction site. This week, the parking lot on Pappelallee, near Restaurant Gosch, will be closed and then partially renovated as part of the Dünenpark project; the work is expected to take about 4 weeks. At the same time, earthwork for the central building complex is scheduled to begin. The masons are continuing to work diligently on the brickwork, and the roofer will also receive the long-awaited, ordered materials this week: polystyrene expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation boards and bitumen roofing membranes.
May 2022
May 30 – June 5, 2022
The masons are slowly nearing completion of the facing brickwork. This week, the civil engineers are setting up the “outdoor facilities” construction site. The surveyor has marked out the corners of the buildings in the central group. The civil engineers will first backfill the area around these five buildings, which will require gravel deliveries via Schützenstraße and Stettiner Straße.
May 16–22, 2022
The masons are still working on the facing brickwork. They’ve really gotten the hang of working on the curved structure. We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ordered window and door units. Unfortunately, manufacturers are not providing the contractors with firm production and delivery schedules during this difficult time of crisis.
May 9–15, 2022
The masons are still enjoying ideal weather as they lay the facing brickwork. The roofer has welded the first layer of bitumen membrane onto the reinforced concrete slabs. It serves as a vapor barrier and acts as an emergency waterproofing layer. Now that the reinforced concrete upstand is complete, the storage shed is ready for the woodwork. The contract for the outdoor facilities is scheduled to be awarded this week. This means nothing stands in the way of the planned start of construction in early June.
May 2–8, 2022
The weather was nice, and the floor of the storage shed is finished. The masons are still working on the facing brickwork. Step by step, they are installing the core insulation on the back wall.
April 2022
April 25 – May 1, 2022
Bricklaying work on the facing continues. Before Easter, the roofer cleaned the surfaces of the reinforced concrete slabs and applied a bitumen primer. Work is scheduled to continue this week. In addition, weather permitting, the floor of the storage shed will be poured and smoothed with a power trowel.
April 18–24, 2022
With the pouring of the parapet for the staggered floor, the reinforced concrete work on the DLRG facility has been completed. The contractors have removed the formwork and cleaned up the building shell. The masons will begin laying the facing brickwork on the Tuesday after Easter. Windows and exterior doors have been measured and ordered; delivery time is approximately 6–8 weeks.
April 11–17, 2022
The clinker bricks for the facing masonry will be delivered this week. Preparations are far enough along that the masons can get started right away. At the storage shed, now that the strip footings have been completed, preparations are underway for pouring the reinforced concrete floor slab.
April 4–10, 2022
Despite the material shortages now affecting many sectors, our construction site has now received the final delivery of rebar and reinforcement mesh. The reinforced concrete slab of the staggered floor will thus be poured on schedule. Then all that will be missing here is the parapet. Preparations are already underway for the facing masonry work, such as waterproofing the base masonry. The reinforced strip foundations of the storage shed have been approved for pouring by the structural engineer.
March 2022
March 28 – April 3, 2022
The masons are still finishing the masonry work on the stepped floor. At the same time, the parapet (the raised section of the exterior wall at the roof edge) has already been poured with concrete. The precast slab has already been delivered and will be installed once the masonry is complete; then the rebar benders can install the reinforcement. The foundations for the storage shed have been excavated, and the rebar benders are now needed here as well.
March 21–27, 2022
The concrete slab above the first floor in the left wing of the building is finally complete. The masons are now constructing the masonry for the stepped floor. After that, preparations will begin here as well for the construction of the final reinforced concrete slab on the stepped floor.
March 14–20, 2022
The rebar benders are running a little behind schedule. They won’t be installing the upper reinforcement on the precast slab of the first floor in the left wing of the hostel/DLRG accommodation until this week, after which the concrete work can finally begin. The sewer lines in the area of the storage shed have been laid, and foundation work is continuing there.
March 7–13, 2022
The scaffolders have now erected scaffolding around the entire building (DLRG accommodation / hostel). The prefabricated staircases have also been largely installed. This week, work will begin on the ceiling above the first floor in the left section of the building. At the same time, earthwork and foundation work for the storage shed will begin.
February 2022
February 28 – March 6, 2022
Work is continuing to progress well on the construction site. This week, the ceiling in the right section of the DLRG facility/hostel and the ceiling above the first floor in the left section are scheduled to be poured. After that, only the penthouse level of the DLRG station will remain. The facing bricks are on standby, so bricklaying will begin there soon as well.
Last week, the surveyor staked out the exact location of the storage shed (behind the DLRG facility), so initial preparations can now begin there as well. The concrete work for the foundation is scheduled for weeks 10 and 11.
February 21–27, 2022
The bricklaying, formwork, and concrete pouring are still in full swing. And the subcontractors are also taking measurements and ordering materials. As the saying goes: Things are moving along…
February 14–20, 2022
Now that the ceiling in the left section of the DLRG shelter/hostel has been poured, bricklayers are hard at work there. Meanwhile, the ceiling in the right section of the building is being prepared for pouring. Work is progressing well, and the weather is cooperating. Other trades are gradually coming into play as well, including the electrician, the window installer, the roofer, and the carpenter with his wooden facade.
One major issue that keeps coming up across all trades is material delivery problems. Many items that used to be available on short notice now have long lead times, and some items—even small things like silicone or insulation—are, you might say, being rationed. It’s not easy right now.
Progress is also being made on the central group of buildings, which includes shops and restaurants. The structural work is set to go out to bid shortly, so we hope to begin construction there this summer. The remaining trades will then also be put out to bid and awarded contracts in the near future, so as things stand today, nothing should stand in the way of completion by the start of the 2023 season.
As for the outdoor facilities, the planner is still working on the construction drawings and preparing the specifications. As the saying goes, “Good things take time”—let’s hope that applies to our project as well. However, we need to start putting the work out to bid and awarding contracts soon, otherwise we won’t be able to meet our goal of starting work on the outdoor facilities this summer and having them completed by spring 2023—at least to the point where our guests can stroll along the new promenade and enjoy the new attractions.
And what about the multifunctional building? We’ve met with our architect again to discuss the building. The first, very promising designs are currently being discussed and reviewed, and we’re confident that progress will resume soon.
February 7–13, 2022
The weather has been cooperative enough that, despite a stiff breeze, the floor slab has been completed as planned, and we can now begin the masonry work on the first floor.
January 2022
January 10–16, 2022
Weather permitting, the walls of the DLRG building will be erected. The first floor slab is then scheduled to be poured in mid- to late January.
December 2021
December 20, 2021 – January 9, 2022
Christmas break :-)
December 13–19, 2021
There isn't much to report this week. The site preparation work is complete, the civil engineering contractor has left, and as for the structural work, we'll have to see what the weather does to determine if we can still pour concrete. The masons are taking a break due to bad weather and probably won't be back until next year.
December 6–12, 2021
The construction site is still well on schedule. The site preparation work is almost complete, and the construction company is slowly packing up and moving on. It went well and was fun—let’s see if we’ll meet again in the spring.
In building construction, we are very dependent on the weather. The plan is to start laying the first walls this week. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather cooperates.
November 2021
November 29 – December 5, 2021
During the final stages of the utility work behind Falkenthal’s Seafood, we came across a drinking water line that is located exactly at the same depth as the new sewer line is supposed to be. The drinking water line will need to be rerouted accordingly, after which everything can be backfilled and the original path restored. With that, the utility work will be virtually complete, save for a few minor finishing touches.
Construction of the DLRG facility is progressing well. The rebar installers have been scheduled for the entire week and are set to install the reinforcement for the foundation slab, which will then be poured in stages. Let’s hope the predicted onset of winter in Germany doesn’t hit us quite as hard.
November 22–28, 2021
We’ve taken another step forward: on November 16, the first slab was poured and the first concrete was laid. It’s just a small foundation slab, but it’s a start. If all goes well, the slab for the DLRG facility will be poured later this week. Then we’ll surely see the first walls of the building soon—we can’t wait.
The utility work behind Falkenthal's Seafood is nearing completion, so the detour of the road toward Hundestrand can be removed shortly. In addition to some final cleanup work, we will still need to construct the access roads for the beach club and the retail and commercial units; once that is done, the utility work will be complete.
November 15–21, 2021
The civil engineer is still working on connecting the new sewer lines to the existing lines leading toward Hundestrand.
The construction crane has been set up at the DLRG facility. The underground utilities have been almost entirely installed, so foundation work can now begin. This will also mark the arrival of the first concrete mixers in Grömitz. Access to the construction site should preferably be via Pappelallee.
November 8–14, 2021
We have now reached the final major phase of the utility installation work. The existing storm and sanitary sewer lines, which run under the current road toward the dog beach, will be replaced and realigned to follow the new road layout. The lines have already been connected to the existing lines in the area of the dike crossing. The next step is to re-lay the pipes in the rear section of the existing gravel parking lot and connect them to the existing lines behind Falkenthals Seafood restaurant. To do this, it will be necessary to temporarily reroute the current road and the footpath from the dike to the beach in the area of Falkenthals Seafood. However, access by vehicle and on foot will remain unimpeded.
Work continues on laying the underground utilities at the DLRG facility construction site. The construction crane is scheduled to be erected by midweek. We expect that structural work will then begin promptly. As the contractor, Nittritz, informed us, the bricks have already been ordered and are set to be delivered to the site shortly. We’re looking forward to it.
November 1–7, 2021
This week, there will be few changes to the upcoming work compared to last week. Underground utility lines are still being laid at the DLRG accommodation building site. Elsewhere on the site, work is still underway to lay sewer and stormwater lines. The drinking water line has been laid, flushed, and disinfected, so the switchover from the old to the new line can take place this week. To do this, the drinking water supply along Pappelallee will need to be shut off for a few hours. The Karkbrook Special-Purpose Association will notify the affected residents accordingly.
October 2021
October 25–31, 2021
There is still a lot of digging going on at the construction site in Dünenpark. Several rainwater and wastewater pipes still need to be laid. In addition, the drinking water main has been replaced. The service lines to the new connection points are currently being installed. The new drinking water main still needs to be cleaned and disinfected. After that, the connection to the existing main drinking water line can be made, and the old line can be taken out of service.
The DLRG building has already been moved out of the way, so work can begin on installing the underground utilities. In addition, the construction site is gradually being set up. Sanitary, storage, and crew containers need to be installed, and space must be cleared for materials and the construction crane. We will try to find the necessary space within the construction site so that, contrary to the original plan, we will not need to use any space in the parking lot on Pappelallee for the time being.
October 18–24, 2021
Development and sewer work will continue in the area around the existing building and the former gravel parking lot. For flood protection reasons, part of the construction site facilities will be relocated behind the dike to the parking lot on Schützenstraße, which will require closing off a small section of the parking lot.
At the same time, construction work on the DLRG facility is getting underway. The first step involves laying the utility lines beneath the future building and excavating the foundation pit. So earthwork will be the initial phase here. Once this work is complete, construction of the foundation slab and the actual building structure can begin. It will therefore be some time before the building really starts to “take shape.”
October 11–17, 2021
The focus of the work is on utility and sewer line installation in the area of the existing building. To this end, it will be necessary to remove the current small access road leading to Bedi’s Imbiss and the coffee roastery. The specific measures will be discussed directly with the affected residents. In addition, the access road to the construction site behind “Gosch Sylt” is scheduled to be paved and completed in the course of the week.
October 4–10, 2021
The contract for the structural work on the DLRG facility has been awarded. The construction company has assured us that they plan to begin work in mid-October. We have a good feeling about this and are really looking forward to the start of construction. Tenders have also been issued and submitted for almost all the other trades. We are currently in the final stages of contract negotiations, so nothing should stand in the way of a smooth construction process. On the rest of the construction site, utility and sewer work is still underway. The work is progressing well and quickly. We’re even ahead of the original schedule—which doesn’t happen every day. There aren’t any particularly noisy or messy tasks on the agenda right now, so disruptions will remain within the current limits.
September 2021
September 27 – October 3, 2021
Civil engineering work on the construction site for the new DLRG facility will be completed on schedule this week, with the exception of a few minor finishing touches.
Drainage work is intensifying across the rest of the site. Occasional short-term changes to the route may occur. In addition, the site is being filled in preparation for future construction, which means there will continue to be slightly increased truck traffic and compaction work.
September 20–26, 2021
Civil engineering work on the construction site for the DLRG facility is nearing completion. There are still a few remaining areas that need to be backfilled and compacted, so slightly increased truck traffic is still to be expected. As planned, the work will be completed by the end of September, allowing structural work to begin in mid-October. The contract has been awarded to the structural engineering firm, and the start of construction has been scheduled.
Currently, the drainage construction work is focused on the area of the former sand parking lot. Here, several manholes need to be repositioned, and new connections must be installed to the existing pipes that carry water and wastewater under the dike. To extend the pipes toward the CHP plant, the current asphalt road leading to the dog beach must be rerouted.
Since we were unable to accurately assess the intensity of the vibrations caused by the use of larger rollers during the compaction of the backfilled soil, we had them measured by an engineering firm. The vibrations caused by the compaction work were measurable—and perhaps even noticeable to some—but remained well below the permitted limits at all measurement points. We have now turned off the seismographs and will have the results evaluated by the engineering firm overseeing the project.
September 13–19, 2021
The backfilling work for the area around the DLRG facility has been completed. Next, the trenches for the drinking water lines will be dug in the area around the DLRG facility and the future promenade, and the pipes will be laid directly as part of this process. Vibratory plates will again be used to compact the trenches—as a result, there will be noise disturbances in the Dünenpark area, just as there have been over the past two weeks. However, the contractor will continue to observe the midday quiet hours.
In addition, due to the relocation of the drinking water line, the existing promenade in this area will be dismantled. We will also be demolishing two large cisterns that were once connected to the outdoor swimming pool.
September 6–12, 2021
Since we need to raise the entire site by approximately 50–90 cm, backfilling work is still being carried out to reach the required installation height in the area of the DLRG facility. During this period, the compaction work may again cause noise disturbances in the Dünenpark area. However, the contractor will continue to observe the midday quiet hours.
August 2021
August 30 – September 5, 2021
The construction site has been cleared, and the groundwater lowering system has been put into operation. The sewer pipes will be laid this week. The first backfilling work in the area of the DLRG facility is scheduled to begin as early as September 1. As a result, noise disturbances may occur in the Dünenpark area during the compaction work. However, the contractor will continue to observe the midday quiet hours.
August 23–29, 2021
Due to an emergency call-out, the high-voltage power line could not be laid as planned, which has caused a delay in the sewer work. The construction company hopes to begin lowering the groundwater level behind “Gosch Sylt” by the end of calendar week 33 and then, hopefully, get started on laying the first sewer pipes right at the beginning of calendar week 34.
August 16–22, 2021
Unfortunately, the sewer work is not progressing as planned. While working on lowering the groundwater level, we encountered a 22 kV high-voltage power line whose exact route is unknown. Since the line cannot simply be shut off, it must first be temporarily rerouted for safety reasons. According to SH–Netz, this work is scheduled to be completed by August 13, allowing us to begin the sewer work as described for the week of August 9–15.
Until then, the construction road will be made storm surge-proof. To protect the dike, the geomembrane lying beneath the gravel layer must be embedded into the ground at the edges and secured with large ground anchors to prevent it from shifting. Otherwise, in the event of a major storm surge, the membrane could be washed away along with the gravel layer. Since the grass cover beneath the membrane is no longer intact, the dike could then be damaged. This is just one example of how high the standards for coastal protection are and how seriously we take the dangers posed by the forces of nature.
August 9–15, 2021
A temporary dewatering system must be set up for the sewer work in the area of the new DLRG facility. The groundwater level will be lowered locally to a point where the new sewer pipes can be laid in a dry excavation pit. The groundwater, which is constantly seeping in, will be pumped out continuously, 24 hours a day. Since we will be using electric pumps, we expect the noise level for nearby residents to be very low.
Otherwise, as was the case last week, earthwork and compaction activities will continue throughout the entire area. Increased truck traffic and slight vibrations are to be expected.
August 2–8, 2021
Once the concrete has hardened somewhat, the temporary promenade is scheduled to open to pedestrians starting Monday, August 2. The “old” promenade will then be permanently closed. Over the course of the week, some minor finishing work, such as preparing areas for the trash containers, still needs to be completed. To do this, it may be necessary to cut into the current promenade wall in some places. Therefore, brief periods of noise and dust are to be expected.
Otherwise, work is set to begin on the site development for the DLRG facility. In the area behind “Gosch Sylt,” the old water and sewer lines will be upgraded. Short-term asphalt cutting work is expected here. On the area between “Gosch Sylt” and the combined heat and power plant, the turf will be removed and leveled, and new fill soil will be delivered. Starting in calendar week 32, this soil will be installed and compacted. We will measure and monitor the vibrations caused by the compaction work at several key points. Even though we will be temporarily storing some soil on the construction site, increased truck traffic is to be expected.
July 2021
Once again, we’ve taken a major step forward. The contract for the site development work was awarded to a company from Ostholstein that we know well and that has worked for the municipality on numerous occasions. Contrary to the current discussion about ever-rising construction costs and a lack of capacity, we were greatly relieved to find that these two factors were largely in line with our expectations. The contract was awarded quickly, so that after all the planning, construction can finally begin. On July 12, the first excavators will arrive in Grömitz. We are thrilled and very excited to see what lies ahead.
We’ll keep you updated on the progress of the construction site via a webcam on our website. In addition, we’ll provide timely updates in a construction diary about any special work that might be a bit noisier or dustier than usual. And for suggestions, questions, and of course praise, please email us at duenenpark@groemitz.de.
Stay tuned and join us in looking forward to the amazing things taking shape at Dünenpark.
July 26 – August 1, 2021
On Friday, July 23, barriers will be set up on the beach side to allow for the construction of the temporary promenade. At the same time, the wall surrounding "Gosch Sylt" will be cut down in preparation for its later demolition. Construction of the temporary promenade will begin on Monday, July 26. Due to construction traffic, the current promenade will be completely closed. Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the dike via the access paths at “Gosch Sylt” and “Falkenthal Seafood.” For the restaurants “Bedis Bistro” and “Torks Coffee,” the old access path from the dike will be reopened. If all goes well, the work can be completed over the course of the week and the closures lifted as soon as possible. We’re optimistic!
During the excavation work, we came across two large cisterns filled with water and sludge from the former swimming pool. The contents must first be tested for potential contaminants, then pumped out and disposed of. Once the cisterns have been cleaned, they will be demolished using a jackhammer. This is expected to cause increased noise pollution. Since we do not know exactly how soon the test results will be available, we cannot currently say when this demolition work will take place. However, we will provide timely updates on the work.
July 19–25, 2021
Construction of the temporary promenade is scheduled to begin this week. In the “Gosch Sylt” area, the wall will need to be cut into in several places and then broken away. This work will be somewhat noisy and will generate a bit more dust in the immediate vicinity, but it will only take about 1–2 hours. We will try to carry out the work in the early morning so that beach activities are affected as little as possible.
To allow for the construction of the temporary promenade, the current promenade will need to be closed periodically for short periods of time. Pedestrian traffic will then be routed over the dike via the access points at “Gosch Sylt” and “Falkenthal.” For parents with strollers or people who rely on a walker or wheelchair, we will install a temporary ramp at the stairs near “Falkenthal.”
Construction of a temporary access road in the dike area is also set to begin. This will involve several trucks carrying construction materials driving through town. While no major, noisy work is planned, there may occasionally be short-term chiseling, sawing, or cutting work.
July 12–18, 2021
First of all, the construction site must be set up and fenced off with a construction fence. Access to the beach will then only be possible at “Gosch Sylt” and “Falkenthal.” In addition, the construction site will be cleared. Bushes will be dug up, small walls will be torn down, fences will be removed, and so on.
However, there are also various shafts, cisterns, pipes from the old swimming pool, etc., scattered throughout the site. These must be located, uncovered, and removed. Where possible, they will be excavated. However, they may be so large that they will need to be broken up or chiseled away. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what to expect, so we have to proceed pragmatically based on the situation. As a result, there may be occasional short-term noise disturbances, particularly from chiseling or cutting work. Additionally, more construction equipment and initial building materials are being delivered to the site.
July 8, 2021
Yesterday, July 7, work began to remove the traffic-calming measures (“speed bumps”) at the corner of Schützenstraße and Stettiner Straße. To this end, Schützenstraße was closed in front of the “Belvedere” building. The construction work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, July 9, in the morning at the latest, so that the closure will then be lifted immediately.
We are currently in the process of implementing the Public Order Office’s directives regarding traffic regulations on the access roads to Dünenpark. This primarily involves no-stopping zones on Schützenstraße and a speed limit in the area around Schützenstraße and Stettiner Straße.
Construction will begin at Dünenpark on Monday, July 12, 2021. The first step will be to cordon off and set up the construction site. After that, any obstructions—such as fences, hedges, old utility lines, old utility shafts, etc.—will be removed and dismantled. The temporary boardwalk on the beach is also scheduled to be built very soon.
We will coordinate the next steps in regular meetings with the construction company and provide updates on the most important developments here.
May 2021
We did it—the little pier was finished just in time for the season. Our “little one” looks really nice.
And what’s happening at Dünenpark? Preparations are in full swing here, even if there isn’t much to see yet. The request for proposals for the development work has been published, and the submission deadline is set for the end of May, so hopefully the first contract can be awarded in mid-June after the bids have been reviewed and evaluated. And if everything goes according to plan, the excavation work will begin in mid-July.
Until then, there are still a few preparations to be made: traffic management must be discussed with the Public Order Office; the beach chairs must be moved so that the temporary promenade can be built; rental kiosks and flagpoles must be relocated; bike racks must be repositioned; connections for construction water and electricity must be established; neighbors must be informed; parking areas must be closed off, new accessible parking spaces must be created, the construction fence must be decorated with banners, a webcam will provide ongoing updates on construction progress, the information will then also be posted on our website, and so on and so forth….
Behind the scenes, we’re handling the marketing of the small commercial spaces for restaurants and retail—no easy task under pandemic conditions. But we’re all really enjoying it, and we can’t wait for the day when things finally get underway at Dünenpark.
April 2021
Work on the small pier is coming along nicely. The workers are currently laying the plank decking. The new “little one” is already looking good.
And the Dune Park project is also taking a huge step forward. The grant application has been reviewed, and the funding agency has given the green light. We can finally pull the prepared specifications out of the drawer and start soliciting bids. And then we can get started... we’re all really excited!
But there is still a lot to do before the first excavators arrive on the construction site this summer. We need to figure out how all the trucks can transport their materials through town and to the construction site, how to guide visitors past the construction site, hold discussions with local residents and beach chair rental operators, figure out how to dispose of trash from the beach, set up an information system including Wi-Fi and a webcam, and so on and so forth… So, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!
On April 20, the railing for the new small pier was installed. The pier is really starting to take shape, isn't it?
March 2021
Construction of the new small pier is progressing well. The new piles have been set, and the old ones are gradually being pulled out of the Baltic Sea seabed. They’re supposed to be reused in some form in the Dune Park later on. Let’s see what we can do with them—keep your eyes peeled, and you’ll surely spot them again in Grömitz. And the substructure for the pier decking is already ready for installation—wonderful!
So far, everything is looking good, and everything is on schedule. And at this point, there’s no reason to believe that the small pier won’t be ready in time for the start of the 2021 swimming season.
And what about Dünenpark? Things are in full swing there. Everyone is doing their best to make sure everything is ready to go this summer. We can’t wait. Are you?
February 2021
Small pier
What does the eel trap in Kappeln have to do with our little pier in Grömitz? Nothing, really, but the workboat being used there is the same one that’s supposed to be used here. And as long as the work in Kappeln isn’t finished, we unfortunately can’t get started here. Oh well, with this weather, no one’s going out on the water to work anyway.
So everything is being prepared in the workshop to ensure that work progresses more quickly on the construction site later on. According to the company, the completion date of Easter 2021 is not in jeopardy.
Late February – The frost is over for now, and with spring-like temperatures, we can finally begin dismantling the small pier.
January 2021
DLRG Accommodation
The detailed design work has been commissioned, and although we had to put them off time and again for nearly six months, the design firms got to work right away. So things are really picking up steam now.
The Outdoor Facilities
The same applies to the outdoor facilities. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience! The relevant specifications will be drawn up in conjunction with the construction plans. Everything needs to be carefully thought through and planned (we know and understand how you feel—we’re getting a bit tired of hearing it too…), so it will certainly take several weeks until everything is ready. Afterward, the specifications must be drafted and published so that companies have the opportunity to submit bids to us. As a public contracting authority, we must strictly adhere to procurement guidelines and even publish many specifications across Europe. Sound like a lot of red tape? It is! But it can’t be avoided. And the whole process naturally takes...
We’ll be thrilled when the first excavators roll onto the construction site sometime this summer, work on the site development begins, and we can start building the DLRG facility this fall. Then we’re sure to have our first awesome party at Dünenpark! :-)
Central complex of buildings featuring shops and restaurants
We still need to clarify a few fundamental issues here so that we can move forward with the detailed design work as soon as possible. Our goal is to complete the buildings at the same time as the DLRG facility.
Multipurpose hall with a play and climbing area
We have some great ideas about what the play and climbing areas in the multipurpose hall could look like; now we need to flesh them out and put them into action over the coming weeks.
Beach Club
We were able to find an investor for the beach club who will design, build, and eventually operate it. It will be built at roughly the same time as the DLRG facility. We’re already looking forward to that first cool drink with our feet in the sand...
And then there was our little pier, too. That’s set to be renovated as well. Work is scheduled to begin in January or February 2021. Everything should be finished by Easter.
October–December 2020
Everyone was waiting for the grant provider’s approval so we could finally move forward with our plans. That kind of wait can feel like an eternity when you’re eager to get going. A moment of panic: As our submitted documents were being reviewed, question after question suddenly arose. In the end, we had to completely revise and adjust the entire application and were only able to resubmit the documents to the review board shortly before Christmas. We’re confident that we’ve now answered all the questions thoroughly. The wait continues.
However, we’ve also received very positive feedback regarding the project’s eligibility for funding. This has prompted us to commission the next planning steps from the architectural firms. In the new year, we’ll be diving headfirst into the construction planning. Yay!
During the first nine months of the year, we focused our efforts on the DLRG facility and the outdoor areas. Since the fall, our focus has shifted to the “middle building complex,” which includes the shops and the two smaller restaurants, as well as the multipurpose hall—which features a play area and climbing wall, among other amenities.
July–September 2020
The preliminary design for the DLRG facility and the outdoor areas had been completed, and the next steps were to move on to the construction design and the preparation of the corresponding specifications. But: “No money, no honey”—or, to put it another way: Without a commitment from the funding agency, we could not and did not want to commission the next planning steps.
On top of that, the tenant of the planned DLRG facility had to withdraw their commitment, so we had to look for a new operator. It really isn’t that easy to find someone willing to step into a project that’s already well underway. But we succeeded; we were able to find a new operator for our DLRG facility. Of course, this operator had some requests for changes and wanted to make a few adjustments to the interior of the building. So we had to revisit the design plans and also amend the building permit application documents.
May / June 2020
The most important question—"What about the funding?"—still hasn't been resolved. Both our new colleague, Mr. Niemann, and the IPC office worked hard on the funding application, but something just didn't quite add up. Many aspects weren’t quite right yet, and many hadn’t been fully thought through. So the application couldn’t be submitted. But at the end of June, the funding application was finally submitted. And then it was time to wait… for the review and, hopefully, a positive response.
March / April 2020
And then COVID-19 hit…
Suddenly, everything has come to a standstill; nothing is moving forward. Many of our colleagues are on reduced hours, meetings aren’t possible, and no one knows what the future holds. Despite all this, we’ve managed to bring on a new team member who will help us address the many unanswered questions regarding the Dünenpark. Welcome to the team, Christian Niemann—we’re glad to have you here and to be building the Dünenpark together, step by step. :-)
January / February 2020
Now it’s time for the intake pipe for our saltwater pool—that still needs to be installed, too. But wait! Is that even allowed? Can we dig in the beach area during winter, the storm surge season? Of course not—safety comes first—so we had to wait until mid-April before the new intake pipe for the Grömitzer Welle could be installed. But it all worked out great in the end. Aside from a few construction barriers, a small excavator on the beach, and a barge in the middle of the water, there wasn’t much to see. And after a few days, the new pipe was laid. Where you can now see a warning buoy for recreational boats to the right of the pier, near the Grömitz Wave, that’s where the seawater is drawn in for our swimming pool. Once it’s been treated, nothing stands in the way of swimming fun.
A few glimpses into the work being done to install the seawater intake system for the Grömitz Wave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52zGyewfd9w.
And what about the DLRG and the municipal maintenance yard, which were previously housed in the Haus des Gastes—where have they actually gone? A small temporary facility has been set up for the DLRG in the western part of the Dünenpark. Until the new DLRG facility is completed, the DLRG’s central station is located there. From here, all outposts along the beach—from the marina to Lensterstrand—are managed, coordinated, and monitored.
Our municipal maintenance yard also has its storage facilities next to the DLRG headquarters. This is where the beach patrol staff—who are out working for you every day—are based, and where the vehicles and equipment are kept. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to the DLRG, who volunteer their free time with tremendous dedication to ensure everyone’s safety on the beach, and to our colleagues at the municipal maintenance yard, who make sure our beach is always well-maintained and ready for swimming. You’re doing a fantastic job!
And what about the Dünenpark? Work on the outdoor facilities is supposed to start in the summer, and on the DLRG facility in the fall. The preliminary design isn’t quite finished yet, the construction design hasn’t started, no specifications have been drawn up, no calls for bids have been published, no contracts have been awarded, and there are still so many other unresolved issues—with new ones popping up every day. Who is supposed to handle all of this, who is supposed to take care of everything? And the most important question: What about the funding needed for this mammoth project?
Since our technical department, with its two employees, is fully occupied with other projects—including the renovation of the pier, the harbor building, the jetties at the harbor, the small pier, the Grömitz Wave, and many other smaller projects—the project management firm IPC was commissioned to assist us with the Dune Park project.
Winter 2019–2020
So far, here’s what’s happened: The excavators arrived right on schedule in November 2019 and tore down the former visitor center and the small beach shop. By early 2020, there was no trace left of the old buildings—a job well done!
October 2019
The demolition dates for the guest house and the beach shop have been set: The first excavators will arrive on site starting November 11 to begin preparing it for our new plans. We’re excited that things can finally get underway.
And even more dates have been set:
DLRG Building: Construction to begin in fall 2020, completion in fall 2021 -> New schedule: Construction to begin in fall 2021, completion by the 2023 season
Stores: Construction to begin in spring 2021, completion by the 2022 season -> New schedule: Construction to begin in fall 2021, completion by the 2023 season
Landscaping: Phase 1 (Fischhus to the small pier) Summer 2020, completion Summer 2021 -> -> New schedule: Construction to begin Fall 2021, completion by the 2023 season
Beach Club: Construction to begin in spring 2021 and be completed in spring 2022 -> New schedule: Construction to begin in fall 2021, to be completed in time for the 2023 season
That sounds like a plan!
Aaaaah, finally there’s something new to see: The design for the DLRG building has been finalized and approved. It was also decided that the facade of the buildings in Dünenpark will be made of dark clinker brick and wood. Take a look:
Views of the DLRG Building
August 2019
Grömitz is getting a new small pier. The swimming pier near the Dune Park will be completely renovated next year and will be able to withstand larger waves in the future. Its length will remain the same; only its stability and appearance will be improved.
Phew, did you know that the seawater intake pipe for our Grömitz Wave runs right through the Dune Park? Obviously, we can’t leave it like that. We need space to dig and work. So: out with the pipe and off to the pool. We’ll relocate the pipe in 2020 and make room for something new.
June 2019
The Tourism Committee has selected the operator for the new DLRG facility. The choice fell on a couple from Grömitz, who impressed the committee with both their experience in the hospitality industry and their excellent business plan. It’s also great that they’ll be able to collaborate with local partners.
In addition, a new draft of the open space plan was presented and approved. The Rissmann/Benthien consortium may now proceed with service phases 3 and 4 (design planning and cost estimation, as well as permit planning) in this area—another major step forward.
Work on the multi-purpose building can also continue. The next project phases can now be commissioned. In addition, a final agreement has been reached on the attractions to be included in the building. These will be: an indoor playground, a “Clip’n Climb”-style climbing facility, escape rooms, VR games, an event space, and a kiosk. We’re looking forward to it!
May 2019
At a town hall meeting on May 15, the Rissmann/Benthien Working Group presented the current status of the open space planning. You can download a drawing showing this status here:
Site Plan, as of May 15, 2019
In addition, the management of the tourism service provided a more detailed explanation of the contents of each building.
April 2019
At the Tourism Committee meeting on April 15, 2019, a decision was made regarding the investor who will build the beach club in Dünenpark. The committee selected the bidder “Salt Gastro GmbH & Co. KG, Jens Skroka, and Domenik Lex.” At the same time, the administration was tasked with negotiating a building rights agreement with the selected investor.
In addition, the Tourism Committee has decided that the visitor center and the entire DLRG complex in the old outdoor pool building are to be demolished this fall. An alternative location will be sought for the beach maintenance crew from the municipal maintenance yard, which is currently based there.
The application deadline for operating the DLRG facility, for which a tenant is being sought, ended on April 26. During an internal review in May 2019, municipal representatives and the tourism office will decide which applicant to select.
March 2019
The calls for bids for the 5 commercial units and the DLRG facility are being published.
February 2019
The Tourism Committee and the Municipal Council each unanimously approved the commissioning of further planning phases for the master plan and the open-space planning, as well as for the DLRG building. At the same time, the Tourism Service was tasked with revising the concept for the multifunctional building in order to minimize the loss of facilities as much as possible.
Work on the designs for the five individual commercial units is also set to move forward. Additional design phases will be awarded to the general planner. In addition, the Tourism Service will be tasked with publicly soliciting bids for the spaces as commercial or restaurant spaces.
It has also been decided to demolish the "Grimm House" after the 2019 season to make way for the new DLRG facility.
Further plans for the new DLRG facility within the Dünenpark will also be approved. In addition, a decision will be made to issue a public call for bids for a lease agreement for this building.
November 2018
Following a decision by the Tourism Committee, the call for proposals for the beach club will be published. The committee is seeking an investor to build a beach club in Dünenpark that will operate as a full-service restaurant year-round. A concept has been developed for this purpose, based on a competitive analysis, a market analysis, and an examination of various trends in the lifestyle and food sectors, and it aligns with the plans for the future development of the Baltic Sea resort of Grömitz. The application deadline is February 28, 2019.
August 2018
The contract with the general contractor has been signed, and he will begin work immediately. The top priority right now is the DLRG buildings (station and housing). At the same time, plans for the multifunctional building are being finalized, and a call for bids is being prepared for the allocation of the space for the beach club.
Spring 2018
The Cap Horn/Spielcenter building will be completely demolished to make way for new developments. In parallel with these procedures and activities, the "AG Dünenpark" (composed of Grömitz politicians, the mayor, and the managers of the tourism service) has been tasked with, for example, determining the exact functions of the multifunctional building, analyzing what types of dining options are still missing in Grömitz so that we can create new offerings in the Dünenpark, or putting the site out to bid for the beach club that an investor is to build for us.
February 2018
The zoning plan has become legally binding. This means we now know exactly what we are actually allowed to build on the "Dünenpark" site.
November 2017
The general planning services have been put out to bid. The bidding process will run through April/May 2018. By then, we will have selected a general planner for the entire project who will handle the planning, development, and project management on our behalf.
