Family Outing Destinations a dime a dozen
Vacation in Grömitz with KidsFinally, vacation—let’s pack our bags and head to Grömitz on the Baltic Sea with the kids! Off with our shoes and socks, and off to the beach we go. Collecting seashells, gazing at the sky, and counting clouds. We build castles out of beach sand and paddle a pedal boat across the waves until Mom is just a tiny speck in her beach chair.
If you’re looking for a change of pace and need to cool off a bit, or if the weather isn’t exactly “swimming weather” but rather “crappy weather,” as they say on the Baltic coast, let’s go on a discovery tour in Grömitz with the kids. You can’t even imagine the exciting adventures we can have together in and around Grömitz. We’ll take on daring challenges, soar through the air together, and travel all the way around the globe to meet wild animals that live on land and in the water. And while we’re at it, we’ll travel even further—back into the past. Just wait and see—we definitely haven’t promised you too much.
Wow, you can see so far from here!
And here’s what you’ll see once you’ve climbed the 108 steps up the lighthouse in Dahmeshöved: the entire Bay of Lübeck and Mecklenburg with its ferries and boats, and the whole hinterland! This is possible because the lighthouse stands on a small coastal promontory and rises 30 meters into the sky. In the past, sailors used the flashing beacon to navigate. And for the people who fled the former GDR by swimming or in boats across the Baltic Sea, it was the “light of freedom.” Can you count all the boats zipping across the water off the coast?
Heroes and heroines like you are, of course, brave. And not afraid of heights.
But are you ready to put your flexibility and agility to the test? Then take on the challenge at the Kraxelmaxel climbing park. At over 60 stations, you’ll climb between 4 and 10 meters up over suspended nets until you can see past the dike all the way to the Baltic Sea. You’ll need strong nerves as you balance across swaying wooden bridges and swing from tree to tree on ropes. But of course, you can do it! The whole thing is pretty wobbly, but don’t worry: nothing can happen to you. You’re super well-secured, and if you ever get stuck, specially trained instructors are there to help. Plus, Mom and I are within earshot—we’ll stay on the ground and play a quick round of mini-golf. And if you ever have a free hand, give us a wave.

I'm sure you've all dreamed of flying at some point, haven't you?
You can experience what it really feels like to have no ground beneath your feet at the Grube airfield during an AIRLEBNIS sightseeing flight over Ostholstein while on vacation in Grömitz with the kids. From up there, you’ll see the world from above, looking down on forests and meadows, on ditches that crisscross the landscape like fine veins, and on just how vast and wide the sea is. We take to the skies with experienced pilots from the Condor Air Sports Club and get to feel as free as a bird for a while. And that’s even better than in a dream—promise!

No vacation in Grömitz with kids is complete without a safari!
At Noah's Ark Zoo, wild animals cross your path everywhere. One moment a lion from Africa roars, Australian kangaroos hop across the meadow, and a couple of really strange birds from South America—marabou storks—stomp through the landscape. A black leopard dozes in the midday sun on a tree, while the seals race to catch the fattest herring. How cute are they! But if you want to pet the goats and alpacas, you’ll have to be careful that they don’t snatch your picnic sandwich out of your pockets. And I’ll promise you one thing right now: This time, I won’t be the one making a fool of myself—the chimpanzees will take care of that for me as they frolic in a huge outdoor enclosure.

Of course, there are no predators living in the forest, but there are animals that are much, much smarter than dogs: wild boars. They usually hide far off the beaten path, but in the Kellenhusen Forest, you can get up close to them. Just how clever these relatives of the domestic pig really are, why they’re called the “gardeners of the forest,” and more amazing facts will be shared by a hunter during the wild boar feeding at the wild boar enclosure (ages 8 and up). And also, why we’ve probably told you before when looking into your rooms: It looks like a pigsty in here.

Do you know what life was like on farms back in the day?
Back when high-powered machinery wasn’t yet used in agriculture, farmers relied heavily on muscle power. Plowing the fields, sowing seeds, harvesting, and threshing grain, for example, was quite strenuous work. You can still see today how farming families lived with pigs, horses, chickens, and nature, and what exciting crafts some of them mastered—such as weaving fabrics or forging iron—you can still see, touch, and try for yourself today at the Lensahn Museum Farm with its old tools and vintage tractors.

Fancy a little trip to the countryside?
Then Filipo’s Adventure Garden is just the place for us! And for your grandparents, too. While you navigate a small river in a raft, race each other in go-karts and bobby cars, jump on the trampoline, romp through the straw, or feed the rabbits, chickens, and goats, we grown-ups will watch you comfortably from the farm café while enjoying a slice of cake. I bet you won’t have to convince us to have seconds for long. Because in summer, the most delicious fruits grow in Filippo’s garden, and we get to snack on them until our bellies are full.

"Together, we're less alone," the clownfish tells himself, which is why he loves spending time with his family—just like you. You can find out why this cute fish lives in a sea anemone and why the clan’s leader is always a female in the fascinating underwater world of Sea Life Timmendorfer Strand, which takes you on a journey through the oceans of our planet and introduces you to around 2,500 animals. In addition to the funny little fish, you’ll also encounter large sharks, voracious piranhas, and a boa constrictor. There’s no more exciting way to travel the globe.

Is the water off the coast still too cold for you water lovers? Then the Grömitzer Welle is perfect! In the large pool of this fantastic water park, you can dive into churning waves every 30 minutes—even when there’s no wind—just like the ones you’d normally find in the Baltic Sea. And in the meantime, you can zoom down the nearly 70-meter-long water slide. Or would you rather let yourself drift effortlessly through the lazy river? I’ll keep an eye on our little ones in the meantime and let them sail down the mini-slide into the wading pool. And Mom? You know she likes to take it easy on vacation. So we’ll give her some free time in the wellness area. And afterward, I’ll treat myself to the sauna.
