Event Highlights in the fall

The peak season in Grömitz is in the fall—specifically, in October and November. But events actually take place all year round. Here are some great highlights from the golden season:

Top 10 Reasons to visit Grömitz in the fall

You’ve chosen the golden month of autumn and are now wondering: What’s going on in Grömitz in October?

First of all: October isn’t the only good time for an autumn getaway to the Baltic Sea. Here by the sea, a natural spectacle awaits you throughout the fall, inviting you to take long walks and enjoy leisurely activities. We’ll show you why you should book your vacation right now.

Here, an hour feels like an eternity—and that’s just the way it should be. The Baltic Sea resort of Grömitz offers a textbook variety of wellness options. Before the cold winter days once again take their toll on our bodies and souls, you’ll find the perfect places here to restore your well-being in a lasting way. Whether it’s massages, wellness baths, or beauty treatments—this is the place to find peace, especially in the fall. The Original Thalasso treatment is especially recommended: the sea salt rub improves blood circulation. It deeply cleanses the skin, allowing trace elements and natural nutrients to penetrate the body, providing a soothing and detoxifying effect. After all, as temperatures drop in the fall, it’s important to take care of your skin as well.

A strong immune system is more important than ever, especially given the weather in Grömitz in October: In addition to a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, the fresh sea air also helps boost your defenses for the cold, wet season. Grömitz offers the perfect “health regimen” for a strong immune system: At SeaSide on the pier forecourt, for example, you can enjoy healthy and balanced meals. Long walks on the beach—or even a morning jog along the promenade—keep you fit and fill your lungs with plenty of fresh sea air.

The truly hardy even brave the cold and take a dip in the water when temperatures are at their lowest. We tip our hats (or beanies) to them, because this test of courage really isn’t for everyone. Another great way to stay healthy and get through the winter is to get plenty of restful sleep—for example, at the Hotel Strandidyll or the aja Resort Grömitz.

Even though splashing around, sunbathing, and building sandcastles draw young and old alike to the Baltic Sea in the summer, the sea has a charm all its own in the fall. Bundled up in a waterproof jacket, holding your loved ones’ hands, and heading straight for the water’s edge: the empty beaches of Grömitz in the fall are at their best during these months. Even wind and weather shouldn’t deter you from a walk along the coast. After all, even for a romantic rainstorm, there’s only the wrong clothing—but never the wrong setting. A promise from the far north: the empty beaches without swimmers will do your soul good.

Perfect for the little ones—they can run, romp, and play to their hearts’ content. Plus, there’s another hobby you can enjoy whenever the mood strikes: kite flying—in the perfect Grömitz weather of October and November. Then it’s time to tighten the strings and let the colorful kites soar over the beach and through the gray sky. And don’t worry—if other beachgoers happen to walk by, they’re sure to enjoy watching the kites dance across the steel-gray sky.

The sun greets us every day with a breathtaking display of colors. Well, okay: sometimes the clouds typical of Grömitz weather in October and November spoil this experience for us. In the summer, however, this isn’t for late sleepers—because here, the sun rises in the early morning hours. All too often, lovers of a good night’s sleep miss the sunrise stretching out over the sea in Grömitz. Not so in the fall and winter months. Even when the kids are already darting excitedly through the vacation apartment and the parents have already enjoyed their first morning coffee, there’s still a chance to admire the sunrise in Grömitz starting in October. This is how you start an active day early on without wishing you were back in bed by noon. You just need a bit of luck with the weather: if autumn clouds cover the sky, you might have to wait a long time for a colorful sunrise. Then it’s time to take a deep breath and turn your attention to another natural spectacle in the Grömitz area.

The Sea of Lights, the autumn highlight in Grömitz’s spa gardens, creates an incomparably romantic atmosphere. Couples in love stand arm in arm, children hold hands, and the town glows with fiery, colorful, and beautiful lights. Always in a different location, always in a different, spectacular way, always uniquely beautiful. Countless torches, lights, and illuminations conjure up the atmospheric glow of autumn during a Baltic Sea vacation in Grömitz in October. What a spectacle! Breathtaking, unforgettable evenings in the Baltic Sea resort on the sunny side.

Time for culture—because the mind shouldn’t go into hibernation. The former Benedictine abbey in Cismar, built in the 13th century, takes visitors on a journey through the region’s history. Whether for a concert, a guided tour of the monastery, a church service, or an art exhibition—the monastery in Cismar is well worth a visit. Today, the castle section of the monastery is a branch of the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum and is owned by the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The choir room is regularly used by the Protestant parish in Cismar as a place of worship. This keeps the impressive grounds alive! Not least because of the monastery café, which formerly served as the monks’ dining hall: Until October, refreshments are served here every day except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Om! As the year draws to a close, it’s time to find your inner balance! Before getting frustrated by short days and cold temperatures, it’s best to practice patience and balance with the right yoga exercises. After all, the sun doesn’t have to be shining on the horizon for the Sun Salutation. In a group of 10 to 15 people, the needs of each participant are addressed individually, so that everyone can quickly get into the flow of the movements.

If you've gotten a taste for it at the studio, you should definitely take a class on the beach this summer:

Amber is a popular souvenir from the Baltic Sea. However, it’s rare to find the “gold of the Baltic Sea” during a casual stroll. In the fall months, though, the chances of making a rare find increase, thanks to the weather conditions. Stormy days on the Baltic Sea churn up the seabed, causing more amber to wash up on the beach. They also float particularly well in colder water temperatures, which is why the weather in Grömitz in October and November offers ideal conditions for searching for amber along the water’s edge. So it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled on the beach, especially among flotsam, shells, seaweed, and driftwood—you might just find something!

Axel, the nature guide from Grömitz, also leads guided amber hikes. These are listed in the Event Calendar can be found.

We won’t sugarcoat it: it can get wet and pretty cold on the Baltic Sea in the fall, with typical Grömitz weather in October and November. True to the saying “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes,” this doesn’t stop the little Baltic Sea fans, in particular, from venturing outside. With rubber boots, weatherproof jackets, and a warm hat, wind and weather can’t touch them. The trick: multiple layers of clothing protect against low temperatures that try to make their way through the rain jacket.

Do you find all those layers of clothing a hassle when you want to stop for a bite to eat after a walk on the beach? No problem! At Ankerplatz in the harbor, for example, you can get hot drinks like tea, hot chocolate, and coffee to go. They’ll warm your hands and heart and give you the energy to explore yet another corner of Grömitz.
